Toe in adjustment

I am having difficulty adjusting the toe-in on my TO30. Both of the drag links have been bottomed out and the difference in spread between the front and back of the tires is almost 2 inches. I was going to have someone cut 1 inch off each drag link and weld back together, thought this would pull the tires in enough. Anyone have other suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you have the correct TO 30 tie rod link on both sides? I would do a lot more checking before cutting and not in favor of welding if it was not welded at the factory.

Are your steering arms put on the spindles correctly? On my TO 30 with the tie rods out of the arms The holes should nearly line up with the drag link bolts underneath and the wheels will be straight. If they are not realign the steering arms and you should have the adjusment on the tierods. I would think.

Do you have the left/right spindles installed on the wrong sides? There is a specific left and right spindle and if you install them on the wrong side I think you will get what you are describing.

Not sure if the spindles are on the correct side, I never took them off ever since I bought the tractor 3 years ago. I will check. Thanks.

Cutting off 1 inch on drag links? Why would you hack up something that was designed to function as is? I can"t say for sure, but I think the drag links are different lengths for each side like on Fords. If the links are "bottomed out" then something is askew. You should look into spindle bearings, kingpin, and steering box in that order. When you get into 3rd and 4th gear, the right front wheel will shimmy like crazy if toe-in is not set properly.

Thanks everyone for all of the tips. I was able to figure out the issue last night. I needed to align the two steering arms above the foot rests first and position the tires at the correct width. Then I connected each drag link to the tie rod on the steering arms. Next, I connected the tie rods at the other end of the drag link until they were aligned with the arms at the front. I was skeptical about cutting the drag links as well, I didn't think something that was original to the tractor needed to be altered.
