Massy 35 new clutch won't pull

I think I have found my problem, but want a second opinion before I remove the bolts. I ordered the clutch assembly from ASAP and there are three bolts in the pressure plate. The old pressure plate does not have these. The tractor will not pull it"s self up a hill in high range. I am under the assumption that I should have removed these once I got the tractor together. I will try to attach a pic of the bolts. It is a diesel with a two stage clutch if this matters. Flywheel was surfaced and all parts are new. Tractor went together very smooth. No pulling it together with bolts. Just FYI. Thanks for any advice.

You definitely should have removed those 'slave' bolts. They are to hold the clutch together until you get it mounted on the flywheel. Tip.....when you remove them, tape them together and keep them in your toolbox for the next time you have to remove a clutch.

How the heck did you get it all back together with the clutch plates just flopping around loose?
I believe you are supposed to get the clutch mounted to the flywheel, insert your clutch alignment tool to get the clutch plates centered THEN remove the bolts to release the spring pressure and hold the clutch plates in place. Then put the two halves back together.
Also from your pic, which I assume is through the inspection hole below the clutch in the back half of the tractor, I notice a lot of oil in there. I know a certain amount is normal but did you replace the transmission input shaft seal or the engine rear seal to keep leakage to a minimum.
The reason I ask is because I just had my 2 stage clutch rebuilt for my gas TO35 and for what I paid to have it done, I'm going to make darn good and sure little to no oil gets on it.

Are those the ... Sam, we don't call them 'slave bolts' here... we call them 'illegal alien' bolts.... still in the springs??? Gotta come outta there mate! or you will go nowhere fast...
As Inno said, amazing you got it together this week loose like that... or perhaps that how it got together so easy????

Thanks for all the comments. I thought they should come out after the customer complained that it would not pull. It actually went together pretty easy. I hope I can get these out through the inspection hole! I will try tomorrow. The rear seal is leaking some, actually pretty good. Customer only wanted clutch replaced. I charged him $725 parts and labor. Was this reasonable? Labor was $250 of that.

Based on what I paid to have my clutch rebuilt, I'd say that's probably pretty fair although everything costs us more here in Canada.
If it were me, I'd strongly suggest to the customer that he have the seal replaced. The seal is dirt cheap compared to the price of labor to split the tractor.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the new clutch?

For a second there Tony I thought you broke into my garage and took pictures of my tractor! That is a very familiar scene.

All too familiar eh Inno? I like a 'refresher course' now and then... but this is getting old hat... don't tell me you wrap duck tape around the pilot tool too? But then, Red Green lives just down the road from you... Those tranny seals depress me into needing another black label... still requires another split... or worse...

I'm about half way to getting the tranny seal out. I don't think I have to take the steering box off but I'll do it if I have to. Far as I can tell you take the cover and bearing off the lower shaft so that it can drop down enough to let you get the main drive/pto shaft out. Trouble is lately all I can seem to get is a half hour here and a half hour there to work on it. Got my clutch back from rebuild on Thurs. and after paying the bill on that I felt guilty ordering the seals necessary to get it back together. They did a nice job with the clutch though, went through the whole thing, replaced springs, set it all up, machined the flywheel etc etc etc..........all I should have to do once I get the seals is bolt 'er all together. Then buy a whole bunch more parts! woo hoo!

Hey Tony, where are you located in Mass? I'm in Pepperell and also dealing with an industrial Massey, my fathers actually. It's a basket case 204. I would be cool to get together and shoot the bull sometime> :)

A loooong way from Pepperell... I am closest to ? 6 Flags? The big E?
I just got a private email from??? forgot... he used to live in Pepperell. I will look in my email.
But sure we can meet up somewhere sometime.... there is usually a show or 2 up north soon... sorta soon. Spring ain't springin' fast enough... we are as bad off as Inno this year...

(quoted from post at 16:32:19 04/21/13) we are as bad off as Inno this year...
On a normal year you would probably be correct. This year is absolutely brutal here! Last year at this time I am pretty sure I cut the grass at least once. Can't even see it now 'cause there's still a LOT of snow on it. When I look at the extended (14 day) forecast it always says that the next 7 days are going to be cold, windy and snowy and the 7 days after that things are going to warm up.......Then that date comes and they say the same thing, bad for 7 days then good after that....I don't think they've bothered to change the forecast for at least a month, maybe two. Today we were supposed to get rain, which would have been great to knock down some snow, nope, came down in a white solid form as opposed to a clear liquid form. Must be what it's like to live in Alaska!
