Will someone please be so kind to give me step by step instructions on how to get the gears lined up on TO35 so i can print them out? The older gent i got the tractor from 3 years ago said it would hang up some time in reverse but i forgot how to line the gears back up, I dont have a puter only webtv and it will not open links or do youtube. Thanking you in advance. James

I found this a couple years ago, hope it helps you.

Fixing a stuck transmission shift lever on a Ferguson or early MF tractor
Transmission main shaft lever hang-up is common on
most models of Ferguson/MF tractors after they get a little
wear on them. The shift lever is held down by a spring.
When you start to shift you will unconsciously lift up on
the lever. This causes the shift lever to go into the shift
fork on the other shift rail. That rail cannot be moved because
of the lock on the back of the transmission that prevents
it from going into two gears at the same time. Once
you have both shift rails in the neutral position you can
then move the shift lever.
If necessary, move the tractor to a level spot and turn off the
engine. If you have a high-low tranmission, put the high-low
shifter in neutral to relieve any pressure that might be on the
gears.
Remove the transmission filler plug. Using a light, look inside
and you will see a large gear. Depress the clutch.
If the transmission is stuck in reverse, take a long
screwdriver or a small pry bar and pry the large gear
forward. Pry it backward if it is stuck in first gear.
If it is stuck in second or third gear you can see the shifting
fork for them though the filler hole. Pry the fork forward if
hung in second and backward if stuck in third. If you happen
to go too far it will go in the other gear. You need to get it in
the center.
You should be able to feel the detent balls pop in the
grooves in the shift rail as you move the gear or fork.
Through the years I have probably unstuck at least a thousand of them this way.
To avoid this condition when changing gears, use the
open palm of your hand to push the lever into neutral.
Then grasp the lever to put it in the gear you want.

as Bob said to get the gears unlocked:

over the years I have used the following procedure when shifting to keep the gears in my old TO-35 from locking up.

I always keep some downward pressure on the main shifter lever when shifting, you have to train yourself to do this,

the most difficult time is when you are backing up, stop, then shift to a forward gear, if you shift too fast as you apply the brakes your body will go backwards as you have the shifter in your hand and you will pull up on it as you shift.

then its hung.

learn to keep a slight downward pressure on the shifter lever as you shift!!!!!!!!!!!!!

always keep a wrench in the tractor to take off the trans oil fill plug and a long heavy screwdriver to reach into the gear case and unlock the gears.

good luck and yes you can learn new methods to shift after you get the transmission unstuck.

my old 1957 has not stuck in gear for many years now. but I always take my time shifting gears.

I do it often on my 202. If I catch it quick enough before I have pushed it too far I can just give the shift lever a quick wiggle left and right and sometimes it will pop out and back into neutral. Mind you I think the trans on the 202 is pretty well worn. My TO35 is much tighter to shift and it almost never locks up on me. Other times I have to take the filler plug off and poke around with a long screwdriver or pry bar to put things where they should be.
