Throttle Stiff on TEA-20

A friendly mechanic used to help me out with my TEA-20, but now he is not well. The last time we got it going, he had to free up the throttle linkage. He did this using vice grips near where the rad is located. I have tried same, but the vice grips are slipping and I don't want to do any damage. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like the throttle linkage needs to be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated rather than being forced into moving and like you say, causing more damage.
