Hi, Today I noticed something leaking at the back part of our tractor. As you sit on the tractor this is on the left between the wheel and the body of the tractor. One part is what I would say is the axle for the wheel, the other I think is for the brake. At the bottom of the picture you see a thin rod that works the parking type

At the bottom of the picture you see a thin rod that works the parking type he area, you can see where it is clean. What part is this? I have no idea how to repair but am willing to learn. Can someone guide me as to what it is and what type of fluid would come out of that area? After we applied both brake stops on the right side, it stopped leaking. But it did leak about 1/2 cup of fluid. Ive attached a link to a picture in photobucket, please take a look. http://s896.photobucket.com/user/sanora94/media/Tractor/Tractor2013001.jpg.html?evt=email_share

That will be transmission oil. Leaking gaskets around the axle trumpet. Repair will involve replacing the gasket. Not sure I'd bother.

If you are leaking oil out of the brake shaft socket the expansion plug may have come out that seals off the back of the socket from the transmission oil. You will have to pull the axle trumpet off to replace it.

Thanks guys, it has stopped leaking completely. Weird. So how do I check the transmission fluid to see if I need to add some?

Also sorry for the confusing post, I had a hard time posting.

This site is wonderful, Ive had much help from many. I hope someday to be able to pass on the kindness.

There should be a dipstick in the center of the round side cover on the right side of the tractor to check the oil level. If you don't have a dipstick, you can take out the bottom bolt on the round cover plate and add oil through the fill plug by the shift levers until oil just starts to trickle out the bolt hole. Add oil slowly as it can take some time to flow from the transmission to the rear end and level out. The leak may have stopped because your oil level dropped low enough or the tractor may be parked such that it is leaning slightly to the right shifting the level away from the leaky shaft.

Thanks Dan, will take a look and see what I find. Come to think of it the tractor was on a small hill, and thats what caused it to leak, usually it is parked level. Again, thanks.
