Got the TO-30 home

Picked up the TO-30 Sunday and had a chance to check it out. Was going to start on the manifold yesterday but noticed milky oil coming out of the hole in the clutch housing where the cotter key is. Today I drained the transmission/hydraulic sump and filled with new oil. Ran the tractor around the acreage for about 15 minutes, pulled it back in and checked the gear lube level. Pulled the bottom bolt on the inspection plate and added a little more until it started to run out. The hole with the cotter key was leaking pretty good, about 3 or 4 drips a minute. How much is involved to change the seal between the transmission and clutch? Here is a close-up picture of the tractor, you can see I have my work cut out for me without any additional problems. Might have to put the whole thing on hold for the summer.

Just park it on an uphill slope so the fluid is tilted to the back and if it wants to leak at the pto shaft it's a lot easier to change. Even if you change it out which is major even for a single clutch there's no guarantee the leak will stop. If the shaft is scratched up it will continue to leak.Long as the clutch doesn't soak you'll be fine.

The oil may not be worth saving as he said he drained the old oil and put in new. He never mentioned cleaning the inside so if it was not cleaned it may already be contaminated. Del check the dip stick next time after using it for a while so it has a chance to get stirred up inside real good. Hopefully it will not be milky again.
