green hood badges

I"m restoring a 55 TO-35 and need to repaint the background of the hood badges. Has anyone repainted theirs and if so how did you do it and leave the lettering chromed without taking days to do it? Sure would like to have it look original when I"m finished. Greasing the letters, or painting the whole badge and then sanding the paint off the letters and edge with a fine block after dry has been suggested. Any thoughts appreciated.

If your using enamel, let it dry a few days, then take a fine cloth (old T-shirt works well) wrapped around your finger, dip it with lacquer thinner and apply light pressure to the areas you want to remove paint from. Repeat. I've had excellent results on my hood badge and Ferguson 35 side plates. Mask what you can BEFORE you paint. Good Luck!
