good news... better news?

Time to rotate the stock? Modernized? Not really. One more towards the straight roysl flush?
Today I bought a 1956 MHF50, scalloped hood, needs tires- someday, and the loops for the long top link pin are busted. Paint is dismal, and the hood orniment is gone! Price was right.
So, the better news??? The diesel has now gotta go, no room at the inn! What an awesome excuse! Why didn't I think of that 2 years ago...
Bad news? I forgot my camera. So no 50 pics yet.

Hey Tony, put the 23C in the MH50! Call it the first MH50 diesel, vary rare! Sure it's a little more work but I am sure you can squeeze it in. Or part it out and sell me the injection pump.

The poor 23c, no happy ending. Well, you are probably happy to see the end of it anyway.

Does the 'new' 50 run, you didn't actually say... I will be eagerly waiting for the pictures.

Dan

Yes Dan, runs OK, a little valve chatter and distributor clicking, but ready to work. The diesel is ready to work too... in remote locations..at night, in the fog...Diesel tech 'needs' this whole thing, he is just alergic to Rt90. And what is to become of the nice crank and bearings? perfect block? New pistons and sleeves? and valves??...and the $400 worth of glowplugs??? grrrrrr.... even if it quit smoking on my watch, I now have too many gas ones to buy another type of fuel.
The whole idea of 'trying' to rebuild it was to burn used oil from the deepfriers... 'after' I finished, and got to this point... I was informed this particular engine can't really burn bio's.... that's the real let down...

Where did you find the MHF50? Must of been one of the ones I missed on C-List. Have you looked at the MF35 in Russel, kind of pricey at $3600??

I have a 8N with loader, want to find some one who will swap me a 35 (or simular) with out loader for it.

Didn't make it to CL Dan, it was a relative of a friend who just decided to sell it the other day. I didn't want to delay, just pay the man sort of thing. I have a feeling they might have other cool stuff no one told me about- yet. As far as the one in Russel, it may just be worth it... to someone... but not me...
hey, I give up trying to sell a loader tractor without power steering, there aren't the muscles out there to deal with these anymore. That's why gringos hire illegals I guess? Just sell it as a plain 8N, if you were going to keep it, those aftermarket PS kits look worthwhile, but not to sell, I doubt anyway...

I really don't like the gearing of the 8N. I The only thing the 8N has over my TO30 is position control on the 3PTH. Other than that, I like the TO30 better......and my TO35 (standard) with Hi-Lo range is even better than the TO30. I do wish the 35 had live power and PS.

I plan to remove the "jungle gym" Wagner loader from the 35 so it will be easier to use. The 8N has new tires and rims in the back, so I suppose I will swap them out with the ones on the 35 before I try to sell it. I will also rewire the 8N and give it a cheap paint job. I had it on C-List last fall and didn't get much interest. So it might just end up parked on the lawn.

So did you go out and look at the one in the hilltowns? it don't have live pto? might as well keep the ones you have now. I wonder what live pto 'arsends' Devon Lane has on the stone wall lately. I know they don't want to part out their Standard diesels...that...confounds me...

Yes, took a ride out that way Sunday morning.
Turned out to be a 1961 Special. A lady was selling it, belonged to her husban which was no longer around. She didn"t know anything about it, except what was printed on the cover of the owners manual. That is why she listed it as a Deluxe.

So this one has the old style seat. No live PTO, Hydraulics, tach or power steering. Has the same Wagner loader as my 1956 Standard. Tin looks decent (didn"t check the fender tool box for rust though). Could be original paint as old faded decals were present. 3 tires are fairly new and the other rear tire is decent. Engine started and ran well. A little smoke at first startup, then cleared. Was running rich, and was in garage, so didn"t let it run long. Lift went up and down smoothly with me standing on lift arm. Tractor included rear wheel weights (not mounted).

Asking price was $3600. That is almost double what the 1956 TO35 Standard ran me.

I will hold out for a 35 Deluxe or something simular.

I got to use the 85 I bought a few weeks ago for the first time over the weekend. I put the 2 bottom plow on my 35 and planned to turn over the garden as I have been spreading sheep/goat manure on it since the fall. I found out quickly that the ground was still to wet. I broke through the top layer on the first pass and sunk the 35 down to its belly. Think part of the issue is the loader puts to much weight up front. I backed up to it with the 85, the wider stance let me strattle the ruts made by the 35. I hooked up a tow chain, low range 2nd gear, half throttle.....as the chain tightened, the 85"s nose rose as the govenor kicked in and tugged the 35 right out.
