I bought this at an auction today for $325.00. I went to the auction just for the rake. When it came time to sell it the auctioneer said it was a new idea pick up rake....lol. I already have one but this one is in much better shape than my current one. It is the first one I have seen in a long time that the frame isn't broken on. I knew it was one of the earlier ones because it had the idler on the belt. It's a real early one, the date on the spider is 11-10-49.

It is a Ferguson D-EO-20, but the auctioneer said it was a new idea. I knew what it really was because I already have one. I just laughed and kept bidding.

I know of one more around here for sale and maybe one other. I already had a D-EO-20 rake and I really wanted a 25 because it"s a foot wider but for what this one was selling for and being that the frame isn"t broken I couldn"t turn it down. The bearings on the spiders are nice and tight and the holes in the bars where they go on the spider are tight and not wallowed out like most. My other one is on it"s last leg, when I bought it the frame had been welded back 4 or 5 times and it was just worn out in general but I used it that way for 2 years. I"m going to take the new belt off of it and the new teeth and put on this one and it is field ready. Well I do have to make a new stand for it. I"m like you Boss Hog, I grew up using one of these rakes and they are a great rake. If they have good teeth are are set properly they rake really clean.

After the hay is cut my a sickle mower, haybine, disc mower or whatever a person is using, it is left to dry in wide windrow. Some people call it a swath too but I've always called them a windrow. After the hay has dried you go around with the rake and it fluffs the hay up into narrow windrows that kind of sit on top of the cut grass and makes it easier for the baler to pick up. Or if your hay is thin you can combine two windrows together so you have to make les trips around the field with the baler.

Mike, many years ago, I was driving down the highway, and saw a guy trying to "rake" hay, using a blade.

Needless to say, he wasn"t having much luck!

Jason: I have a question for you, but I couldn"t send you a message. I think my e-mail is open - can you drop me a line? Thanks.
