Now you mention the new injectors....Well I asked over on the Friends of Ferguson Forum and it seems there are different injectors for the 23c with heater plugs. If you have the wrong injectors it will slacken off the tensioner on the chain....does that sound familiar?
Sam

Blimey! Took you this long to sober up eh? Hanging around with too many Catholics this time of years is bad for your health Sam... but like I told ya, green paint is on sale this week...
From this point on... you may address me as 'Mr Holmes'... is that acceptable Dr Watson?
I was thinking with the weather lately... and I had some home heating horrors shows last couple years... this fuel must be like molasses... thicken it up... or as Jon said 'make it leaner'.... which is a nozzle operation wouldn't you say watson? I mean Sam...

I just sickened meself....
If that diesel finally starts running right... I'll have to keep it... and keep buying two fuels...... and can't use the arsend on the 202 engine.... you've already ruined my summer...and it's still snowing!!!!
And please tell me how wrong injectors can jam that chain idler? backfire? slamfire? I did think it was odd to see it stuck after so few hours since rebuilt....

Tony this is Bill Brox's reply to my question

Up to Engine number SJ 86045 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6169
Engine number SJ 86046 E to SJ 125724 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6262
From Engine number SJ 125725 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6290

Normally the 6290 nozzle is what is sold today.

I thought I had sent this info to him long time ago. Maybe not.

Been a while since I talked to him on the phone. Didn't know he had started working on it. But obviously have.

Opening pressure on used nozzles are 130 atm, and 135 on new nozzles.

Hey, Tony! Don't sweat all the nozzle tip #s as the early ones were all superceded by Lucas CAV years ago. All three listed have the same main and starting holes size and needle lift is the same also. BDN12SPC6290 Despatch # 5651241 is the listed tip. At least in all the CAV/Lucas/Delphi books I have.

I hate to say it Sam... but you and Bill might... will.... have to adopt another 'mercan 23c owner... how does it go?
'patience is a virture, find it where you can. seldom in a woman, never in a man.... but we Italians know better than that. Patience is sick people in a hospital'.....
In the process of removing an injector, I twisted and snapped a return line. Then the broken pipe got hooked in my sleeve, bending it to the point of breaking at the little mainfold.... so more wrenches came out, and the engine is going on either a pallet or a spare rear half, but the end must come to us all, and this engine's end came around 3PM....
The block is SJ 117988 E, the injector should be 12SP6262 right? The injector is CAV BKB405697K, DES no.5345108.Someone electric penciled #15786...
I have too many fine running Continentals and Perkins gas burners to spend another 6 or 700 bucks on this project.
The $380 I paid for 4 glowplugs was a waste of a week's pay, not again! I alread put nearly $2000 and a year of spare time into this science project, I can get other nice running TO35's for less than that.

Yeah but it's kinda like playing the lottery, you might be close to your "jackpot", can't stop playing now.

Well that's worse news ain't it Rich? That means the injectors ARE correct... or acceptable, for this engine... all the more reason to put this in a cage at the freak show.... don't tell me you want this motor... you are so far away...surrounds by so much other cooler stuff... don't tell me there's no cool stuff near you...

See? Diesel tech loves these Standards... but he don't need more misery. YOU on the other hand... NEED this diesel engine... in another 3 or 4 weeks you will have more black flies... per cubic centemeter.... than you can shake a Victoriaville hockey stick at...

In 3-4 weeks there will likely still be a foot or more of ice on the lakes and very strong evidence that winter existed with a vengance this year. A "river" will flow through the back yard over top of the remaining snow contaning the runoff from the neighbors cattle field to the west of and slightly higher than us. The blackflies won't be out for at least 8-10 weeks, maybe more. That furry little so and so who predicts the coming of spring every year will by then have been turned into a nice warm pair of mitts and his head will hang over the mantle..........I digress.......I don't have a mantle.
I'd hate like heck to take that off your hands only to make one or two little tweaks and reap the benefits of all your hard work, that just wouldn't be right and I'd be a bad bad person for doing so. It is for that reason that I insist you keep it.

Not gonna second guess your decision as the 23c probably became a family member maybe a redheaded stepchild. Put it out in the cold with no cover against the elements or part it out and scatter it all across the nation but don't sell it all together or some arse like me will say all it needed was the pump timed properly.Do the surgery quick before the gremlins get into the intestinal tract.

soooo.... when does your mosquito season start??? Maybe I can get into a rental business.... 'smoke screens are us!'
Georgia- about now. Western Ontario, a few weeks... Idaho forest fire drills, all summer... if hollywood ever does remakes of 'Sink the Bismark' or McHale's navy, I got smoke captain Binghamton won't see thru....
Diesel tech can store it all winter at his place, as part of his collection of oil burning oddities... hey maybe we will see it on travel channel's 'mysteries at the museum' show... now that would be cool...

Don't you dare bring that atracity down hare, its got germs or gremlins, just come on and enjoy a couple of weeks with no 23c dreams of "wat if i had tried this, or surely that would fix it or, or," any hoo springs a busting and if jawja ain't warm enough we'll haul arse down to Florida where all the bargain back arses reside!!!! No BULL

You are into cars and stuff.... how do I get an aftermarket cruise control into my E 150 campervan? The factory one is shot. I can't drive that far without cruise... especially hauling a trailer full of .... ops... almost let the cat out of the bag there....
Anyway, only thing I found on the web is J C Whitney. I never had good luck with that gang.

Would you be better off trying to fix the factory one? It's already in place and could cause less potential harm.
