OK Sam, sober up and look at the pictures.
See the tensioner with the screw driver in the pic? That's where it was stuck when I first took the cover off. Would that have something to do with the smoke? The new chain is hardly 50 thou shorter than the old one, don't know about the links, I didn't have my dial caliper out there... and it was cold, bitter wind, time for a carling or 3.... so sod it till tomorrow eh?
If this doesn't cure the ills, the back half is getting amputated and sewn to the 202 engine... runs like magic she does! BTW!!!! It happened to make a bit less smoke today, bloody cold, coldest day I ever tried to start it, actually ran and sounded like a diesel tractor insted of a monstrossity. is there a way I am burning too light a fuel? Is there such a thing as tractor non vaporizing oil? Might experiment with this before I slit its little throat and cut her in half..... hum... that doesn't sound very nice does it????

You looked into the peephole in the pump to see that it is not turned 180 degrees ?

Yes Bill, I did that a few months ago when someone mentioned it. I went by the 'alphabet' stamped on the drum. I have it at a point that is starts and sounds as good as expected. What I might need is a list of part numbers of the right injectors for that particular head. I think that is the prime suspect.
BTW Bill, have you heard or seen the lastest fishing regulations for this area? They might as well trade the boat for a fergie.

Tony, the chain being slack... there is a little spring there, and it just to keep the slack off when the engine is standing still. It is not until you get oil pressure that the slack is gone.
But, I see they sell those things new, so maybe they got so worn that either the oil is peeing out, or that they get stuck somehow.

The injectors does not cause the chain to get slack, that's a piece of crap. But, you knew that already... if someone think diesel injectors can slacken a timing chain then I guess I think they have had their head down the paint jar for too long.
What slackens it is just normal wear. I wonder what the opening pressure on the injectors are, cause if it is too little, it will start smoking.
I would getting that checked first. If the nozzles are not done right the engine can behave like a real lunatic.
That said, if the nozzle pressure is set way over what it should be the increased pressure tends to wear out the pump fast, and in that sense can cause more wear on the chain. But the pump will most likely go before the chain.

Tony, I thought I had sent them to you long time ago. I guess I am getting old and have even forgotten what the word remember means...

Up to Engine number SJ 86045 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6169
Engine number SJ 86046 E to SJ 125724 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6262
From Engine number SJ 125725 E, CAV BDN 12SP 6290

Opening pressure is 130 atm for old nozzles, and 135 atm for new nozzles.

Tony, I have sent the squirt pattern for the 23 C injectors in a mail to you. Find included a Word file to open.

Some says the engines with the separate heater plugs had a different nozzle than the engines without heater plugs.
I have been looking in my MF 35 parts manual, and in my shop manual, both original MF books, and I have also been into the AGCO parts book system, and I find different nozzles, but they are all related to engine serial number, and not with or without heater plugs.

The nozzles has a little unique spray pattern, they are supposed to squirt out very little fuel straight forward when the engine is cranked by the starter even at full trottle, but when the engine starts and the speed increases, the squirt to the side deminish, and the squirt straight forward increases.
You'll see the pattern in the file I sent. I can't understand I haven't sent it to you before. I need to go and get my head examined.
Something must be wrong up there in what do you call it.
