Sediment bowl

Do all of these things leak? My old one was leaking and in general disarray so I went and bought a new one and installed it with both teflon tape and pipe dope and it is still leaking around the bowl even with the valve off, leave the valve on and you'll have gas dripping on the ground in a matter of hours...

In a word, no. Are you sure it's not the fitting on the bottom of the gas tank seeping, I had that problem on my 202. Found out afterward that it was not the safest thing to do but I rinsed out the tank (many times) with soap and water etc. and soldered it with a propane torch. It hasn't leaked since. I thought the leak was from the threads but I was mistaken. I think all I've used is teflon tape. Put a new on one the TO35 with teflon tape and it hasn't leaked either.

Where did you buy one from? If it is a Tisco piece that doesn"t
suprise me that it leaks. I have found the ones from Sparex to
be of better quality than the Tisco pieces.

Just take it back.
most of these units are cheap quality off shore built.
You may have to go through two or three to get a good one.

I buy a lot of my parts from advance auto they at least have
a good return policy.
The last fuel cutoff valve that I bought from Massey fergy was no
better. Time has left us behind
Its go diesel or go home now.

You must have a fuel cutoff that works properly, a fuel leak could burn up you and the tractor.

even if the shut off valve does not completely shut off the flow of fuel it should NOT leak if the seal (gasket) between the top of the bowl and the metal top is right. sometimes you may to try a couple of different gaskets and also do NOT over tighten the bail (?) that goes underneath the bowl. too much torgue will cause a poor seat.
gaskets can be bought at NAPA. gasket-fuel strainer no. 730-9506

Seems as if i read on here that the cork gasket was supposed to be soaked in gas before install but that sounds like compounding the problem.

I went through a couple of new ones (China) and couldn"t get either one of them to quit leaking. I followed the advice given (either on this forum or the 2N,9N,9N forum) to purchase a USA made one from the New Holland dealer. It will cost more, but cheaper than a fire!

It has been on there three years and hasn"t leaked, even though I have taken the bowl off several times when cleaning the sediment out.

Like 2 says, the box might have been on a shelf decades before you bought it. Soaking the gasket even a couple hours before instsalling helps. Now, the installing is another hang up. Kinda best to have it all appart on a bench. The wet gasket as round as you can get it, bronze screen absolutely certainly in the exact posaition... if that is off center it will keep the gasket from ever sealing. Then screw it into the bottom of the tank with your choice of sealants. Some people replace these with inline filters, but then there is no water trap or shut off...and they all need a fuel shut off....

On page 17 of the TO-20 Operation and Maintenance Manual, in the "Fuel Filter and Sediment Bowl" section it says "NOTE: valve has a left hand thread."

What thread ts this referring to? The valve into fuel tank? If so, I"ve never seen it mentioned on the board.

I also need to replace a leaking sediment bowl gasket, and I"ll also probably be removing the valve to clean and coat the fuel tank, as well.

Thanks.

Update here I think the issue was the gasket on the new bowl. I pulled the bowl off today and it has a rubber gasket, I replaced the rubber one with a new cork gasket and I think it has quit leaking now.

The cork gasket is a plus -be sure it is the thicker
style. Also, over time and use the valve stem
assembly will leak as the rubber seal in it breaks
down New cheaper Cheena made products use a poly-
vinyl seal and that is just plain stupid. The valve
stem assembly is available separately so you don't
need to buy a whole new sediment bowl assembly. No
left-hand threads. use a sealant called GASOILA on
threads.
