Lift cover installation

Ok I got my brand new lift cover and am in the process of installing it but am hung up on the eccentric cams setting. I have an IT manual but the instructions are kinda fuzzy could someone kinda dumb it down for me. What position should the levers be in and what position should the lift arms be in? Also when I took the original cover off the standpipe didn't have the backing rings just the orings, are the backing rings needed for a proper seal and if not what purpose do they serve?

Yes backing rings are important. They are what allow the oring to stand up to that amount of pressure with out blowing out or best case scenario, leaking.I wouldn't put it together with out the backing rings. As far as the settings I don't remember off the top of my head. I have a factory shop manual I could look at at home when I get there. Maybe someone else on here will know.

Ok thanks looking foward to it, it was working without the backing rings but I will get them ordered asap.

They will work without but it usually causes the lift to leak down and eventually the oring will just blow out. If I could find the link I would send it to you, I downloaded the shop manual for the 35 off the internet for free. If I can find it again I will send it to you so you can have your own copy.

Jason, can you tell us where you found a shop manual to download free? If I understand, you were talking about a 35? TO or MF?

I had downloaded mine thru a torrent a couple years ago. I looked and I saw one for download for a MF50 is on there still. I"m sure the 35 one is still there. Do you know how to use a torrent? He has been absent for weeks now, but John UK had a whole procedure to set these things exactly, it is the sort of thing you want to get right the first time huh? I posted pics of my 35's inside cover, I will try to find it- about a year ago in the archives I think...

Success!

One question however, is there a safe way to test the safety valve? I put a new one on and was going to attempt to test it so I kept easing the position lever up expecting the valve to start blowing off and it suddenly it made a small pop! I almost had a heart attack so I quickly let it back down and set the upper stop well before the cylinder bottoms out. :lol:

It holds the mower up very well with almost no leak down so other wise I am very excited about it overall.

I think you just have to be brave and trust that it will do it's job. I went through the same thing on my 202, the dreadful pop the first time was the hyd. cylinder cracking under excess pressure from a fresh pump rebuild........if you replaced the relief valve you should be ok. According to John(UK) you should "blow off" the valve every so often just to make sure it's cleaned out and operating properly and to prevent another failure like the one you just fixed. With a properly working relief valve you should be able to raise your draft control lever all the way up then gradually raise your lift lever until it opens up.
