TO 35 Years

You see people listing for sale 1960 etc TO's for sale, serial # books show it also up to 1960. Some list them as MF after 1957.Some books show's the MF 35 to began production in 1956 ??? After the merger and doing away with some dealers did MHF continue to build the Ferguson tractor with a Ferguson badge? I always thought after 1957 they were all MF. Which is correct?

The Engineering Dept. authorized the MF front hood emblem on 2-9-60. So some time after that they started installing the MF hood emblem, and at that time they would have officially been called MF. I have not seen a certain serial number stating that was the first MF badged tractor. Mickey I am sure you have seen TO 30s advertised as TO 35 and vice versa. Many people that buy a tractor will take the sellers information as being gospel and if they don't have a reason to check they are happy with what the seller told them it was. I see this almost every week so as long as they are happy why should I stir up trouble?

My diesel has Massey Ferguson spelled out on the side of the hood and top line of the tag. The hood ornament 'badge' has Ferguson only, and TO-35 above the serial number... it is a '59.

My memory which was processed here on YT, lead me to believe the 57 was the last"to"# for the 35. Maybe the 20 and 30 fell off the chart a little earlier

On the FENA site there is a article called Evolution of the Ferguson TO 35 to the Massey Ferguson 35. This article shows the TO 35 from 1954 to sometime in 1960, at this time it changes to Massey Ferguson 35. According to the article the last serial number for the 1960 TO 35 Gas Deluxe was 207426, Gas Special 209483, and Diesel Deluxe was 203679. This article is found under Resources, Technical Tips then Evolution. This is a very interesting article.

Tony, I would bet I could get some John Deere decals and stick on the hood of your TO 35. LOL I am sure the reason it says Massey Ferguson on the serial plate is that is the name of the company that produced that tractor, for legal reasons. Not positive but I am guessing if you look at Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac somewhere they will have to carry the General Motors name also.

Well, I figured I better put my money where my mouth is. The one of the whole tractor is the only one I could find not shrouded in smoke.
In my humble opinion, the decal on the side is original. No one would bother such a poor looking fake so long ago- but perhaps a dealer? But by 59 red and decals were the norm for the tin right? But an old fergie badge might have been just using up old stock.
I was mistaken. The TO-35 was above the MF mark. The 202 is a year older and is all MHF marked.

TO-20: Harry Ferguson MFG
TO-30: Harry Ferguson MFG
TO-35- Harry Ferguson then Massey Harris Ferguson then Massey Ferguson. Then the TO series came to an end and then enter the numbered series of tractors.
TO series is merely a model designation.

My '59 TO 35 diesel serial # 197xxx reads Ferguson 35 on the side of the hood. As best I can remember the one my dad bought was the same.

Tony, all I can say is what I see on your 35. To me it looks as the Massey Ferguson decal is to far to the rear to be factory installed, there is no Ferguson tractor "Logo" to the rear of the 35 on the decal, S/N plate is suppose to be black back ground and the front hood emblem is suppose to have a off white back ground. I looked for a good picture of the decal and could not see one that could change my mind. Yes Red and Flint Metallic Grey started in 1957 at serial number 176341 on the TO 35s.

All very curious. I just stopped to look at a Ferguson that is for sale. The sign says TO30, asking $3750. There was no dash badge so I looked at the motor tag. That said Z134, telling me the tractor is a TO35. The price is sky high in my opinion, fun to look though.

Not nearly as high if it is a 35 and if it is a deluxe model with two stage clutch. Still a little high maybe, but not so high you couldn't make an offer.

Whattcha talkin' bout Sam? Looks just like mine- can't you tell? I just read 'tractor of the day' on the home page here.... I hate having to chunder so early in the day. Now I've got to eat breakfast again....
Some of the 'bamboo' tractors in the new furrows look so 'banana' yellow, I like Scotts find as a benchmark. The few traces of original paint I found in hidden spots of my 40 looked just like his, I did take a pic of Rustoleum smoke dabbed next to the original.... looked closer than hoeshoes and handgrenades to me....
