it looks like a tap on the side of my block , i was wondering what it is used for

my 1957 model to-35 has a petcock on the side of the block.

this is to drain the coolant from the block.

If it has a butterfly valve on it, it was used to run a vacuum attachment to milk cow udders. I have a 56 TO35 with this device and I asked the previous owner its' purpose. You should hear a vacuum hiss when you turn it. Always keep it in closed position.

Actually the milker is the earlier model,along about 56 they replaced the vacuum with compressed air for fixing flats.
