i unhooked it from the gauge and started it. it came out ok, not a surge or anything like that, just a slow stream

If the tractor doesn't have any power it may need the governor adjusted. I've learned the hard way that it doesn't take much to throw them out of adjustment and it won't have any power.I run 30 weight in my TO20 myself.I won't say for tractor engines but I know on car engines 10 psi of oil pressure per 1000 rpm's is ok. I would think as long as you have 10-15 pounds you should be fine. Also a lot of the gauges you get now arent the most accurate when it comes to tractors. I have heard of new gauges being off up to 10 psi before. Sorry to hear about your health problems.

i dont want to really get into something if its not necessary. i am not able to do it or the money for it. i am lucky though, i can find someone to help me free of charge so that really helps a lot/ this is my first tracor and i am proud of it. it dont leak oil all over the place and it has never used a drop of oil. it makes no noise that i can tell i know nothing about tractors but im learning a little bit as i go along. and again i thank all you guys on here. johnuk has been wonderful and richard has been great and he even gave me a part for my to-20. no charge. i havent gotten over that yet and i am very grateful to him also. i am an old man and getting older, but i still know how to say thank you bill

Sorry to hear about your health problems, hope everything works out well for you. Seems like all of us up in years will have to deal with cancer at some point. You will need to acquire a torque wrench to replace the pump.
