Sherman Transmission

I have a Sherman Transmission that came out of an 8n Ford. Will this fit in a TO30? If not is there any alterations that can be made to make it fit?

As far as I can help you I have heard the Ford and the Ferguson Sherman will work in each other, however if you have a Ford unit and put it in a TO 20/30 with the Ford cover on it you will have to give up the safety starting part of the Ferguson with the shift lever or get a Ferguson cover to keep the shift lever starting in place. I hope this is correct. I am sure others will chime in shortly.

i really don't think anything ford fits anything ferguson. I would check into it more before splitting the tractor. I don't remember ever seeing a ferguson with a Sherman trans. I could be wrong. Just my opinion.

Yes, it will bolt up and work.
No, the mechanical starter linkage will no longer work.
You can build a work around on the starer linkage. No, I don"t have the diagram for it currently.
Yes, it will all fit inside the case.
That"s it in a nut shell.

Without alteration the ford won't fit the ferguson but the ferguson will fit the ford. You are talking about a combo sherman?
I have a few shermans laying around and I can take some photos of a ford altered to fit a ferguson inbetween my snowplowing tomorrow if you are interested.

Here are a couple of photos of ford sherman that has been fitting for a TO30 ferguson. The top has been cut and the back of the case has been ground down.

Thanks for posting it for those who had not seen it. He was asking what alterations could be made to the ford that's why I posted the photos. I probably have about a dozen or so sherman's and the ferguson case is a lot harder to come by. The altered ford case pictured was taken out of my TO30 ferguson.

MANY years ago our farm bought a Ferguson TO 30 and it came with a Sherman step up transmission, a back hoe an a FEL. The 3 additional names I always remember were Sherman, Davis, Shawnee. I do not remember which name went with the back hoe or the FEL but I know it had the Sherman step up.

I've got a Sherman step-up in my TO-20 and a Sherman combination in my TO-30. You can see the levers on both of them.
