Thrust plate TO-30

Is this the proper way to install the thrust plate or does it go on around the other way

That is the correct way.

I don't see any pins to hold it in place.

I am having to drill and replace the pins. Hopefully all of that will work out on the great side.

There are also some thin shims that you add or take away in order to obtain the thrust clearance.
