Restoration parts quality

I'm getting into a TO20 restoration after doing restoration work on '60's and '70 Chevelles. I found that there is a huge drop in quality and fit of reproduction components for these cars compared to original or NOS. In most cases I was better off refurbishing the original parts than buying new reproduction parts.

Is the same thing true with the Fergusons? I'm guessing that very few parts are still made in the US or UK. I'm hoping the quality and fit will be good enough to buy new than try to refurb some of the worn out stuff on this old heap. Thanks,

I am fairly sure your best bet will be to refurbish most of what you have or can get from flea bay.

Most of your repro parts are made offshore.Steiner has a good selection and can get most of what you will need.A lot of ferguson stuff will be Sparex. Steiner will work with you to get parts and replace or take back anything you do not like the quality of.

Sparex will have everything you will need and good quality. I buy all parts from them. ACGO owns the company now, their parts come from Sparex. Parts are made in England.

I usually get my parts from the dealer for my 135. Surprisingly enough, all but three things were made in the US. And I get 5% paying with cash.

Its just like restoring cars. I used to restore mustangs and a lot of after market stuff is a nighmare to try and use. When I need a part and it isn't rebuildable this is what I do,first see if it is available from Massey,if not I scour around and look for good used or NOS parts. Lastly I turn to the aftermarket and look at Sparex first because their parts are better than a lot of the aftermarket out there. Tisco is bottom of the barrel in my book.The only exceptions would be for engine parts and I use after market there but it's usually Federal Mogul,Fel Pro,Victor Reinz,Hastings,etc... and in those cases alot of them made the O.E.M. parts so their parts will be as good as the original.For electrical it's either Borg Warner, or Blue Streak for me.

I've bought many new and old parts for my 202 and TO35 tractors. I find that the quality of the aftermarket parts varies quite a bit. Any mechanical parts which aren't seen, seem to be of decent quality. The rebuild kit I bought for my hydraulic pump contained parts from India, Turkey, UK and I believe China, everything fit and it works great. Some of the external 3pt parts I purchased left a lot to be desired, rough, uneven castings, some had to be touched up with a die grinder in order to fit properly. The manifold I got for my 202 needed a LOT of work to get it to fit properly and be able to put all the nuts in place.
If possible I would look for used or new old stock parts but that's just me.

I have found a radiator for my 35 to be crappy. New ones don"t have near the weight of the old one, they are just stamped steel whereas the old ones are much heavier, like a casting.
Also, they didn"t fit. The bottom hose wasn"t positioned right and the fan shroud wouldn"t fit.
Tried 2 of them, one from A&I and the other from AGCO. Ended up getting the old one re-cored.
The glass bowl tank outlet was a nightmare too. Bought one from TSC, it was a Tisco, and the outlet was not machined right so the flared end couldn"t seal. Bought another one from A&I and it worked fine, but it looks like the same thing as the Tisco. I would say A&I supplies parts to Tisco.
