These bourdon gauges either work or they don"t. They don"t indicate some times and then stop. They are a mechanical gauge. Start you engine and let it idle til it warms up and see if the oil pressure drops when the engine comes to temperature with no load. If it does then you either have stuck open relief valve, a worn pump, or worn mains or any combination of the three.

when i first start it the gauge goes to 40. after a bit with it sitting still and running it drops to 23 rev it up and it goes back up. no noise of any kind. no chattering either. thanks for the help bill

ok. i took the oil line loose from the back of the gauge. it was pumping oil fairly good. i was curious as to why the pressure dropped when it runs a few min. or when i put a load on it? so i guess i better leave it alone as it appears to be running ok and no noise. i dont know what im doing any so i guess the gauge is ok. thanks guys bill
