OK, been considering putting the rebuilt Z134 from this 202 plain jane back half, onto the back half of the 23c diesel's back. I redid the 2 stage clutch as I was rebuilding the diesel engine.... but... the flywheels are different, the 202 having a single clutch, I know the crankshafts will bolt to either... buts as in a thread a few days ago... what's the chances the ring-gear for the diesel's Lucas starter will/ will not engage the Delco Remi on the z134? OR... will the starters interchange on the blocks? The diesel is still under a pile of solid snow, and the 134's kit isn't here from YT yet, so no rush... but I am weighing my options here...
 
Tony, are you saying the diesel flywheel can be bolted up to the Continental crank? Even if they bolt up I always thought there might be differences in weight or balance.

If you have a dead MF50 you could take the two stage clutch flywheel out of that and use it to finish up the 35 project and worry about flywheel/starter compatibility when you get to the MF50 later.

Different Starters Diesel wont fit a gas as it is different mounting on the block and it is on opposite side of engine. The Flywheels are totally different where it attaches to the Crankshaft and a Dual Clutch Flywheel is different to a Single Clutch Flywheel. The Flywheel Ring on a Diesel is much heavier than a gas type and the starter pinions are a different diameter with more teeth, so it is debatable that they could be used together. A Flywheel from a dual Clutch gas Engine could fit a Single Clutch gas Flywheel and you could use the Clutch for the tractor successfully without too much trouble..John(UK)
 
Yes Dan, I didn't know what my next step, John has cut the options in half, less than half? Because the single stage clutch and flywheell on this 202 are knackered to the end, the flywheel has such a worn circle my machinist said not to even keep it, junk. So is the... oh, I'll post the pics again and save typing! The delco remi ring gears in the YT store are only $34... the flywheel itself was the big $ question...
Actually Dan, you are more depressing than John! I really didn't want to write off that MF50... but like you said, cross that bridge when we get to it! I don't want to go shopping any further that the dead track out back. And in the end, out of 3 dead tractors, get all 3 running and working, or atleast the worst engine mated to the worst backhalf etc.
I need to try a new timing chain on the 23C, so the front has to come back off, at that point, I was going to put from the flywheel back onto this soon rebuilt z134.... then see what becomes of the diesel and 50... kinda like dealing with cabin fever with adult size leggo's....????

I guess that's why my head starts to spin when you talk about swapping around fronts and backs of kinda sorta similar tractors.
 
Sounds like you need to set up an excel spreadsheet just to keep track of all the options and combinations.

I just looked and there are several two stage clutch flywheels on Ebay right now. One of them is over in VT...

You hit the nail on the head Inno... 'kinda sorta suppostabe the same but they're all different'... that's what's got me sitting on a milk crate drinking a Carling Black Label...
The diesel has a live hydro/live pto back half sitting there under-utilized? And the 202's back has nothing in there but the drive shaft and diff's, which would be just the ticket for a rolling mosquito killer/secret smoke screen device.... Dan wants me to canibalize an MF 50... that one set's itself on fire alot... but that's a story for another day.....

Don't let the 23 whoop u. I'd contract it out and enjoy the milk crate then take credit while slurping down those discusting taste ing BL's
 
One of them flywheels has 4 bolts and the other has 6 bolts, can you manage to get the holes lined up?. Find an AD3 152 engine from a 135 and bolt it into that live drive backend and you will never use any other tractor. Are you sure you didn't have any part in a Frankinstein movie ,Tony?

I'm just trying to picture the colour combinations he could come up with. My eyes hurt just thinking about it.
 
You passed the eye test Sam! AND you can count! Almost forgot about them, but I dug up the pics from ... May '11, I see what John - and now you are saying... 2 extra bolts... bloody pommie over engineering!!!
Tell ya Sam, the Standard 'was' my 21st century atempt at diesels once again... perhaps try again, next time a Perkins? in the begining of the 22nd century?
As far as movies... did I ever tell you about my small roll in Mell Gibson and Anthony Hopkins 'Bounty'???? How much time ya got to listen????
The rumour mill in Hollywood is Masseynut will be the vehicle propmaster in the next Mad Max film... so keep an eye out for V10 fergies painted in punk rock schemes...
 
Ya no 2, if though a local shop could handle it well at a decent price, I would sent it out. The chances I would get it back in the same smokey condition is 50/50 or better, at??? Hey the shop near me wanted 700 to 'look at' the CAV pump, I paid 600 for the whole bloody tractor!
I'm sure it will warm your little heart when I tell you the snow drift is melting enough where I can get to the diesel- atleast the front of it, and change out the timing chain. Another 12 bolts I could roll the engine away huh?... that's why I posted the thread, see what the chances were... I think I need a road trip to you and Jason's place... with the reese hitch rack? or the twin axle trailer????
