TO 35 Dual Stage Clutch Replacement Cost

What kind of exspense can I expect when replacing the two stage clutch in my TO 35. Any labor will be done by myself. Any helpful hints or suggestions ?? Thanks

There are a couple choices in the YT store on the top of the column on the left, marketplace, tractorparts, keep choosing from there.

OOOOOOOhhhhh. But did harder ones. And learn something new everytime.
In the box above, click 'archives'- I posted a bunch of pics of the process on here and massey forum, along with a dozen other guys here with threads doing clutches, it should bring a couple hundred hits. you'll have a good long read...

To replace the clutch you will need to split the tractor behind the engine. Tractor splitting has been covered a lot on YT so I'm not going to cover it. I would suggest that you get a service manual before starting. I have a used copy for $25.

When you have the tractor apart you will need to remove the pressure plate, clutch disk, and flywheel. To change and or inspect the pto clutch disc you will need to further disassemble the pressure plate. The flywheel will need to be inspected to insure that it is in good condition.

While you have it apart inspect the throw out bearing and transmission seal for leaks. Replace the throw out bearing, might as welldo it while everything is apart.

To put back together a clutch alignment tool will be needed. I have used parts to help if you need them. 802-782-2409

VT Parts, is your service manual an original MF manual or an aftermarket one? I'd be interested in an original.
I am looking at splitting my TO35 and I wondered what the difference was between the different clutch options listed, or does it depend on what I find when I get mine apart?

Would love to see the pics you posted but cannot seem to find the archives box you are talking about, HELP!! Thanks so much. Any more help or comments ?? still looking for a ballpark cost of parts.

Lots of us have been there and done that and theres at least a dozen don'ts such as forcing the halfs back together and bending the disc or getting the 2 round metal spring disc mixed up or not getting the fingers adjusted correctly. You may want to try adjusting the pedal as that does change over time.To find the archives just back up to all the subjects and its up top then type in clutch replacement.

The original Clutch had 2 saucer shaped springs (Belleville type) The pivot points on the Clutch Plate release Levers can wear over time and this loses motion you need to free the Plates, when it is like that you can't overhaul the Clutch as there are too many parts that are worn, so you need to change the complete Clutch. It will depend on what you find when you get it out of the tractor. If the problem is with the PTO Clutch only, you can re-set this if it isn't too worn. If things are really bad and the Clutch has been used for some time with the Plates worn, it may have marked the Flywheel and that would require skimming to restore the surface again.
If you need the info about this, or how to replace the Clutch and re-set it, email me and I will send it...John(UK)[email protected]

If you need the info about replacing and re-setting the Clutch, email me and I will send it. Depending on what is wrong with your Clutch and what it is doing, it could be only adjustment that is needed....John(UK)[email protected]

Yes 2, I clicked the 'archives' in the bar above, and got a bunch of generic stuff in alphabetical order. Yeah, type 'clutch replacement' in the search box comes up with over 6100 hits??? We must have mentioned this once or twice before eh?

Joe, I have a set of Transmission seals, one for the main shaft and one for the PTO shaft. If your going that far you might as well replace them. You can have them for the cost of postage.

Well I found out a couple of things, First of all the owner (not me) plugged the weep hole in the bellhousing with a golf tee, there for getting oil on the clutch. I cleaned the disc best I could from the inspection hole with brake clean and adjusted the clutch as per the IT manual. The owner does not want to go the the expense of a seal change, so I am going to change out the trans oil because it is very milky (and THIN). I told him we will leave the oil level a tick low and not to park it in a down hill position and NEVER plug that hole again. Thanks for all the help from everyone.

I change the hole assembly on my to 35 2 years ago it cost me $650.00 with the bearing . Igave 100 dollards to a good mecanic help .I was splitting the tracteur for the first time.now i enjoy the machine.Iam using a 6 foot snow blower to clear over 1 mile of snow even if is 2 feet of snow.Idont regret the hole assembly.evrey tings go well.

The "expense" of a seal change? Oh, I see, you aren't planning on splitting it at all. I'm sure that now the disc is saturated with oil that it won't ever be right without replacement.
