OK, for those following,

He wants $300 firm and will not come down.

Is the general opinion to go ahead and pay the $300
and then start checking everything?

I'm trying to get some sort of guarantee from him,
but doubt that he will.

Personally from the pics and him not offering a guarantee of any kind I would probably pass. Seems kind of odd doesn"t it that he won"t offer anything? I"ve sold a lot of engines myself and I have always given them some kind of a guarantee that promises it is mechanically sound.

Part of the problem is evidently a past relative did the work, now I'm dealing with I believe the brother and his son.

Bad thing around here is people think their stuff is gold and get a price stuck in their head.

There's a nice Ford N down the road, been sitting in the trees for years and years. guy wants $1600 for it. I've been watching it rot since.

It amazes me the deals people on here find, but it's not going to happen in SE Indiana.

Now the son wants me to talk to the dad, so I'll see if I can get something.

There are a few people on here in your general area, ask what else is around they know about. You don't sound like you're in an urgent need of one, so just wait it out. After all these stories you got about this boat anchor, just forget about it.

I would advertise on C-List wanted section. It might get you a complete "parts" TO for just a couple hundred bucks more. Sell off what you don't use and put a few dollars in your pocket.

if it turns over,if it has compression,i"d hold up 2 $100 dollar bills and say deal?just made a stupidly low offer on a allis b,and brought it home....

I wish it was that easy around here. A junk tractor in the Tri-State is about $1200. On one hand Fergy's and N's are hard to come by, on the other hand, no one wants them. I've probably had want ads up for 2 years with no luck.

It would be nice if CL would have a way to search say a 100 mile radius of your zip code.

Was that the one on Syracuse craigslist? He said in the ad he had gotten it running but it looked to me like the carb was missing.

That's what I go thru beyond my southern New England haunts. There got to some good deals in that area.

Well by the way it looks on the old post the motor is a Z120 if my eyes still work even though it has the external oil filter i have heard some did come that way maybe industrial power plant say sandblaster generator?

Look under distributor shaft Z 120 something making it 20 hp. not the 30 you wanted but it will still work in your frame.

I talked to the guy, he went out and checked it twice, said it is a 129, not a 120, but I agree kind of looks like a 0 and not a 9

look at the pic again tell me what you see? it looks to me it reads Z120 a 30 will say Z129 just take another look under the shaft.

I asked my wife and son, they say an 8. I said your choice is a 0 or 9, they say a 9. I guess the only real way is to go drive there and look. The guy looked twice and said a 9.

I agree, I'd say probably a 0. Maybe it's a really bad picture.

This is starting to give me a headache.
