Anyone familiar with a high/low shifter on a to30? Would give 8 forward speeds, it does not pull out laterally. I have some pictures here, |

| | The link is inaccessable from my location but (asuming that the shifter is on the left) your Sherman is a step up (only) if the shifter handle is steel with an aluminum ball. If the shifter is one piece cast iron it is almost certainly a combination (UD/Direct/OD), though it could possibly be the very uncommon UD only. Dean |

| I'll jump in the middle. Looks like a combo handle. In neutral it should pull out. I would cheat and grab a pry bar and try some gently persuasion. Top gear was for road speed to get you down to the next pasture asap. Still needs a Howard for tilling properly. |

| Weren't there also some on the N's that were step-down only? That is what I have mostly seen in our area when they come up for sale(vegetable farms). |

| That's the way it seems to work. I was hoping it was the combination. The lever looks like it could have been. Don't know what you would use the faster speeds for. |

| Well use 1st under like on a transplanter, then 2nd is normal plowing but when get to a tough spot go to 2nd low and if you got to easy going then shift to 2nd high, 3rd low good for disking in previously worked ground, straight 3rd for disking in unworked ground, 3rd over for a hay rake or spring tooth harrow, 4th under for the rotary hoe, 4th for road travel with heavy loads going to local grain elevator but on way home with empty wagon then 4th over so you made it home before dark. 3rd over also good for going out to field with manure spreader. Doubles use out of that tractor with using less fuel if you have the gears you can shift to with a lower engine rpm and also less engine ware. MY TO30 did not have either one and sure wished it did. Would have made a big difference in time to haul a 20 mile round trip to the elevator. Both my 9N & 2N Fords have the over and wish they were the combination. The NAA Ford did not have one as well. |

| That is the same lever we had on our TO 30 and I never knew about a combination until maybe 4 years ago on this forum. |
