engine hoist attachment points?

I am in the process of splitting my tractor and need to know how to remove the engine with the hoist. What is the best way to lift the engine block. I am having my block welded and need to move just the block.

If you have removed front axle etc., remove valve cover and use the two bolts that keeps cover on, place a chain with plate welded to ends with holes in each. Use the hoist to lift up until you remove bolts in transmission housing. Block up transmission housing where the 4 bolts are for the inspection plate is. I'll post pictures later.

Thanks for the reply. Thats how i wanted to do it but the head is removed also. I have a stripped head bolt that i was going to have the same guy repair while he welded up the block. Any way to do this with the head removed? Can i use the head bolts from the blockand lift in the same fashion? Thanks.

Hey Minor, those welds look like a dirt dobber did it.lol I use a chain that is big enough for the bolt to go thru. Nice pics!

If you fasten anything to the engine you should always lift straight up-wards, not try and lift at an angle or you will bend something. If you don't have anything suitable, lift with a rope sling around the front crank pulley and around the Engine rear mounting flange, the rope will go between the oil pan and the Mounting Flange, The ropes will also prevent the engine trying to tip sideways....John(UK)[email protected]
