My TE20 with Z120 in fact has flywheel timing marks. Is that factory or did a PO put a flywheel from a TO20 on it at sometime in the past????
If all TE20's in fact have the flywheel timing marks then how many teeth are on the flywheel starter ring gear??? Knowing the numbner of teeth will allow any owner to remark flywheel to allow timing lite at the lower sheet metal bellhousing cover.
Yes, yes i know the SM defines a procedure to remark the crank pulley at the front for better access. But i don;t like it. |

| My TE-20 with Z120 engine does NOT have the timing inspection hole in the engine mounting flange. It does have what appears to be factory timing marks on the flywheel. |

| Later engines in the TE20 had the Flywheel marked in exactly the same way and had the timing hole in the same position as the TO type tractors...John(UK)...fergusontractors@hotmail.com |

| Where you mention a second mark for the timing Cover, that was only the timing advance mark at 2000rpm and it was also so it could be seen with a timing light as you couldn't see the original mark using a light. You could static time it to the original mark cast into the cover as most people did...John(UK)....fergusontractors@hotmail.com |

| Early TE20 Engines had the mark on the Timing Cover with a notch on the rim of the Crankshaft Pulley, later Engines had the mark on the Flywheel in the same position as the TO20 Engine (under the plug below the Starter) This is possibly after 1948 as the original batch of engines were used up to that time around serial number 48,000, and a few beyond, but they did make a few TE's until 1951 for special order, so it seems highly likely that the later Engines would be the same as the TO20....John(UK)....fergusontractors@hotmail.com |

| Don TX. Maybe check the the rest of the flywheel for possible factory timing marks. Maybe the chisel marks u found were made by a previous owner. Most likely any home made marks on the flywheel would have been made at the 6'Oclock position of the flywheel while the factory marks (if any) would then be at the 3 o'clock position of the flywheel.
Or to put it another way:
Place chisel marks at 6'Oclock position, then turn flywheel clockwise 90 degrees to see if factory marks appear. Of course that assumes the flywheel is still mounted to the engine like mine is. |

| Pending more detailed inspection, the flywheel timing marks on my TE20 are identicle to those of my TO20 and appear to be factory inscribed marks. Nothing homemade looking about the marks at all. |

| I checked the one I'm working on this weekend. It had a factory line mark on the edge and there were 3 marks (looked like a chisel) past that @ 1/8th" apart. Seems there was another chisel mark, don't remember which side of the factory line, apart from the 3. Wasn't able to check the timing at that time but located some marks. HTH DON TX |
