First, Let me start by reporting I am 100% sure I know the difference between a TO and a TE hood. Were any TE's shipped to the US with an all steel hood? I bought a pair of steel side panels and a t-bar from what appeared to be an all original 1948 TE 20. These pieces are 1/16 thick and are obviously aged pieces. Much thicker than any panels of any type manufactured in the last 30+ years. Thanks

The majority of TEs had steel hoods,It was only during shortages that they used alloy panels.

For what it is worth, we have an original 1948 TE 20 that my great grandpa bought new and its hood is all steel. Hope this helps.

Thank you guys, I have dealt with 2 other 48 TE hoods and both had aluminum panels. I have never found information on the production materials Ferguson used.

My TEA20 came with a very rusty steel hood and side panels. Got from a wreck a very good condition hood and side panels. The hood is steel and the side panels are aluminium, with only one crack in it that needs repairing. My belief is that Harry built the UK tractors out what he could get and there was a lot of WW2 aircraft scrapped in the UK. The gear casing is made of recycled alloy from old aircraft.

Some of this tends to beg the question as to whether or not some TE or TEA tractors mite have been produced with cast iron transmission cases too as opposed to "alloy".

All Ferguson tractors were manufactured with Steel Hoods and Fuel Tanks, but around 1953 they did have steel shortages and they made as much as they could from aluminum, that was Hoods, Fuel Tanks and the Auxiliary tanks for Diesels as well, but this was short lived as they soon got steel supplies again and the Aluminum parts did not prove successful, Hoods especially alloy types were terrible and they cracked and deformed badly, no strength at all in the Hoods..John(UK)[email protected]

If they were TE20 tractors the Aluminum Hoods were not the original ones, they had been replaced. It was in the days of the TEA's (1953 or thereabouts) that these Hoods were fitted due to a temporary shortage of suitable steel..John(UK)[email protected]
