TO20 rear axle seals

I am replacing the rear axle oil seals on a TO20 and I found someone had installed what looks like an aftermarked inner oil seal pressed into the bearing retainer housing on the left axle,it,s a cup like affair with a seal pressed into it and then it was pressed into the bearing housing against the bearing race, the seal then rides on the axle. I found they are listed in my All States Ag Parts catalog, has any one had any experience using these seals and will they cause the bearing to not get enough lubrication, thanks for any input,Al

Sounds like a sure seal to me. When installing them you have to pack the bearing full of wheel bearing grease, because the bearing will no longer get lubricated by the oil that slings off of the differential.I think the part number for them is SS92

Sure are Sure Seals! If fitted correctly then you need go no further as they save a lot of time and expense.

And the 2N but not the 8N.
Short fiber wheel bearing grease as is found in use on drum brake equipped cars.

The Sure Seals are great. Have them on my TO-20. However, if the OEM OUTER seal is bad then any grease packed into the bearing will leak out. So outer seal must be in good condition, sure seal or no sure seal. No???

You need to pack the bearing with HMP grease every 12 months to avoid it running dry. You could fit a greaser like the later tractors which would save taking apart each time. Take care setting the axle-end float, it needs to be set correctly...John(UK)[email protected]

Assuming that the outer seal is in good condition and the SureSeal is used, then it is not clear to me how the bearing could ever run dry any faster than the front wheel bearings of an automobile or lite truck could ever run dry. At least not in such a short time period as one year. Automobiles and lite truck have a similar seal to the HF outer seal and just a dust cap. DOn't have to repak those every year.

Bearing retainer puller pics. Works on TO-20. Maybe others too. Cheap easy fast to make. Replace the OUTER seal and use the Sure Seals and get on with life. It works. Rock'N Roll
