RPM meter

I am trying to set my idle and the books i look at say to drop down to 400 rpm and my TO-30 does not have a guage is there one that i can put on my tractor. If so where would i install it into the tractor. THanks

There are electronic tachs available and I believe they hook up to the distributor but read the directions to make sure. You can get an inexpensive hand held unit at most auto parts stores if you just want to set the idle. The Auto parts stores will have the electronic tachs also.

I used a hand held RPM meter. Uses a reflective tape stuck on the crank pully. Can also check the PTO shaft RPM. I think its made by Exel. Bought it through McMaster -Carr.

There was a company called Northern Tools who did an hour recorder and rev counter, very simple and wasn't expensive either.
