OK , having a strange thing going on. TO-30 when first starting , starts right up with choke lever all the way out. Will run at half choke for a couple of minutes. Then if you set to no choke it will stutter and cough , until it gets hot. Once its hot , 15-20 minutes , then It runs fine. After taking it out of the garage and moving around , if it is on a bumpy surface or using the loader, it runs realy rough , stuttering and coughing like its got COPD ! Then is will stall.Just like some one turned the key off. If you try to restar it it just cranks over. After it sits for a couple of minutes it will start back up. and seems fine. Any ideas? Thanks. |

let me know what you find out,my to30 does the same thing,i put new fuel line and fuel filter also put a fuel shutoff at the carb(takes place of the elbow screen,I think for some reason it isn't constantly getting fuel, with mine I'm thinking the screen in the gas tank that is attached to the sediment bowl sometimes gets plugged.good luck.

Even new coils can be defective, if you have another one to stick on and try it, it would be a quick way to rule it out.

Could also be a bad coil, getting hot and giving weak spark.

The throttle should have much more range than that. Could be a governor issue. When it's sitting there idling and you crack the throttle and bring it up to high speed, does it go smoothly or does it sputter? Is the choke staying open when operating, sometimes when I'm using the backhoe on my 202 the choke will come on causing it to not run right and if I don't get to it quick enough it will flood (needs a new spring). |

OK , checked the screen @ carb., nothing , checked the fuel line to carb. removed the line and opened the gas tank shut off , gas flows like river. Have been opening the fuel screw ( large one ) on the carb. 1/8 at a time. Nothing better. This is a new carb. When she's sitting it runs very good, female LOL , she acts different than when out working, could it be the float ? Did not check or set when put it on. ALSO , throttle only moves about 1 to 1-1/2 inchs from idle to full throttle. Not 65 deg. like the manual. Stumped ?

If you don"t already know, there is a screen filter in the brass elbow that feeds fuel to the carb. This is often overlooked. My te20 did the same thing several years ago, and that was the problem. Take the elbow off of the carb and blow out the screen that comes out with the elbow.

One of the many fuel screens is parcially clogged, maybe inside the tank or carb or the fuel bowl, most times when you have to pull choke to make it run your not getting the gas to carb.

I would take the drain out of the carb and see if junk runs out, also open up the power circuit about 1/2 turn.

Opening the main jet 1/2 turn is far too much at any time, do it 1/8 turn at a time..John(UK)
