Diesel TO35 problem

HA! You all thought it was going to be bout the Standard engine! There seems to be an epedemic of this going on, lift piston plague or something. Dealer out of these parts till next week... they did a couple dozen of these this summer, the shelves are bare.
Lucky me the bolts let go before the cover did, a bear to drill out, and broke a ring taking it off the piston, which appears to have been broke a long time, the broken chunk was in the tranny sump, oil stained for awhile from the looks of it. Bolts were the fresh snapped pieces. Breaking the ring got my goat. Any fergie engine ring that could fit? I got tons of them...

Tony,If the bolts have sheared like that it is due to traveling too fast over roughish ground with the implement raised. The implement is thrown up and crashes down and something has to give. This is one reason that you should regularly check the tightness of the four bolts that attach the Lift Cylinder to the Top Cover. The Safety Valve will release some pressure and act as a Shock Absorber, but the pressure is high and it does take a hefty shock to open it and this shock load is transferred back to the Tractor. John, it might have been. This was the first time I ran the lift with an implement- not traveling, just trying to lift it, just playing with the diesel on a foggy day so I don't embarrass myself- with the rusted up remote valve, it couldn't lift a mower, so I replaced it with the bypass cover plate, and pow! I was thinking I put the plate on wrong or whatever, but ol Massey dealer said it was broke to start with long ago, making it work again just polished it off.
I did check the fuel injectors on the 23C, all looked fine, so after muking with them, a couple are puffing as she runs. Actually less smoke lately, as I grasp at straws, but the idea of a 'blower' affair...??? 'cause she seems to be just too rich and I can't resolve it... so turbocharge is in the back of my mind.... 12 volt air compressor??? Stat tuned...

Turbo charger off a VW van will work Tony....fit it on the exhaust manifold get the oil feed from camshaft tapping and return your oil through a drilled and tapped sump bung. We have one already modified in Ireland, it spins the rear 16.9x24s in top gear on an ashphalt road!
Good luch and drive safely........and hold on tight with the nipper valve !!

Tony those bolts are always mostly in shear when you lift a load and the relief valve is supposed to protect them from overload due to overloading the hitch. Then, as John points out, there"s running over rough ground with a heavy implement raised that provides an impact loading again in shear. After 60 years between fatigue and corrosion, they finally found the ultimate load for what was left of the bolts strength and they sheared. But with a top rate mechanic like you, it"s a piece of cake to repair this damage and ger "er goin" agin".
