First one is how I got it, the next few are after the loader has been removed then some before and after about an hour of pressure washing. I was startled at the difference! Now that I have the plug tightened the leak is gone. The chirp is heard from the exhaust pipe, you can not hear it from the engine. Nope, it was from the plug........which was not tightened! Now.........why the heck is there so much oil there? It looks like that one leaky plug caused ALL that oil mess on the left side of the engine, dripping down, following the line between the head and block towards the back and dripping down the entire length. Amazing how someone could let that go for so long without even checking if the plugs were tight. They were in pretty sad shape too. Now that I have the "leak" fixed it does seem to be burning some oil. Took all the plugs out, cleaned and gapped them (they were all wrong), gapped the points and it seems to be running a bit better. It has a bit of a miss, which presents itself as a chirping noise at the exhaust, funny little noise. I turned the idle way down so I could get a better listen to it, it seems to be happening at a regular pace, like it's just one of the cylinders, maybe a valve not closing completely. More detective work! Can't play with it too much now, got a week off and honey-do list to match and most of it doesn't involve playing with my new tractor. Look closely along the Head Gasket to see if there is anything there too, you did say that it was leaking along this line between the Head and the Block.This seems a very likely source of the noise and the slight misfire. maybe worthwhile checking the torque settings on the Head too. Make sure that the plugs are the correct type and gapped correctly for the voltage of the tractor.The noise is unlikely to be a Valve..John(UK)...fergusontractors@hotmail.com [Reply]  [No Email]

I am really starting to believe this tractor was used by the Ministry of Transportation 'cause it has rust in a lot of places I would not expect it, likely due to all the salt on our highways in the winter. Add one more thing to the list of things it needs, a radiator. Many of the fins are rotted away, it still has maybe 1/2 of them still in tact. I'm surprised it's not leaking. Once I got is started again after it's shower, oil started dripping almost instantly from around the front spark plug. That's where it looks like it's coming from. It was almost dark so I couldn't get a really good look at it. I'm off work this week so I'll get a look today. It's not quite as pristine as the pictures make it look but I'm still pretty happy with it. Say, would you know if I have to take the front end apart to remove the hydraulic pump drive from there? It looks as though I do. Anyone got a lower grille? I thought about getting a few rattle cans but I think with this one I want to work out all the leaks and any mechanical bugs I find then bring her in the shop over the winter and really go through it, clean and service everything then maybe give her a real paint job. That is like a 'barn find'. I forgot the farm girl joke that ended something like 'but she cleans up well' but you'd just fly off on a tangent... I was daydreaming earlier this week- while powerwashing some stuff.... anywhere southwest of the lakes people couldn't justify wasting the water to powerwash anything.
