installing sealed beam

Does anyone have a trick to installing the sealed beam head lights using the four little spring wires? I am confused as to exactly how the spring wires are suppose to be installed and after talking to two different New Holland dealers I am even more confused. The TO 30 Parts Book shows the wire clip but as far as I can see I might need four or five hands to get it together. Now tell me how easy it is to do "please". Does anyone know if there is anything in Ferguson Furrows on this? Richard

I use needle nose vise grips. Keeps them from flying across the shop and losing them.
I assume you know that the clips hold the ring to the bulb--then you just screw them into the housing.

Richard,

Two sets of hands makes it easier but I have done it by myself several times. One trick is to suspnd the sealed beam so the only thing touching the mounting surface(bezel)is the support. I have used a bowl for that purpose. The "middle" of the "W" clip(the little protrusion) goes on the edge of the sealed beam and the two "legs go under the bezel inside edge. I start by putting one leg in place and the middle protrusion on the sealed beam edge and then with a needle nose or strong fingers, bend the other leg so that it slides under the inside edge. This is where a second pair of hands or a vise grip is used to hold in place while you do the second one. Then the third one is can be inserted without too much worry of the others coming out.

I hold the light face down on my lap. put one let under the rim, walk the short flat section down onto rim of light, and bent other long section over to the side and up under lip.
Not as bad as it seems.

I don't think I would have figured it out with out your guys help. Reading all of them and seeing the pictures looks like an easy thing to do now. Will let you know later. LOL Thanks to all. Richard

Take pictures? Yes you are correct I have many pictures of much of the stuff as I was tearing it apart. However no pictures of what the tractor looked like when I got it home before tearing into it. That upsets me now. I had no way to take pictures of the head lights as it did not have any when purchased. I have plenty of pictures of the F 40 I got a couple months ago and will do a much better job of documenting that one. As I have heard others say "Live and Learn". Thanks all. Richard
