DUMB QUESTION?

When a seller of a JD gas 4020 knows that the sleeves and pistons are bad, if he is an honest seller, he or she would tell the buyer- correct? He may not know that all of the bearings are also bad, but there is a good chance of that. In this day and age, is it just "buyer beware" - you might get scr__ed? Any comments for protection?

GENE, it IS buyer beware.. its up to YOU to do your homework & diagnose BEFORE buying.
Take a compression tester w/ you.. unscrew acouple of plugs & do a quickie test.. w/ the sellers approval of course.
THATS another good sign.. While "talking" to the seller on the phone, ask him IF you can do a compression test..
IF he says NO.. there ya go..
IF your buying online, the ONLY WAY NOT to get "hung-up" is, getting a local guy to go do it for ya.
Its sad that its come to this.. it "used to be" only the dirtbags would do something like that.. but now adays it seems like a lot of folks have fallen into that category..
