Has anyone ever dealt with Chris from Welsley Iowa? It seems everything he has is either low hours! Or mint! I get skeptical when people use adjectives like that to describe everything they have. Anyone have any experience with this guy?

Went and looked at one tractor, one time. Left the tractor and quickly took my money with me back home. His terminology and my expectations didn't match at all. Based upon that one experience I never looked at any more there, but I did buy a similar tractor from another dealer and it was exactly what I expected in a tractor.

You did not say anything just asked a question which to me is fine. Some of the replies were what I mentioned.I agree mint and restored are a bit overused. They are only new once and like new is also overused.Nothing wrong with your question just uninformed answers. To me a restored tractor is much more than new paint that is why I very seldom get one painted myself.

Totally agree about the term "restored". To some people restored simply means a coat of paint. To me it means gone thru front to back with anything mechanical being repaired and new tires and paint. I don't mind a freshly painted tractor but don't tell me it is restored if that was all that was done. Don't recall seeing Chris list many tractors as "restored".

At close to 70 years old I should have learned to not reply to questions on the computer.Just for the record I have done a lot of business with Chris.I am not a dealer but love tractors especially nice ones red or green.I farm and raise cattle and tractors are basically a fun thing that is a change of pace.Used tractors are not new but I usually let buyer take them to dealership and have them checked out or use them.I also have let them pay after they get one sight unseen .According to law a buyer has a right to return something within a couple of days.If you want to see some of the nicest low houred tractors around get in your car and check them out or at least sign your name .My new JD tractors have more problems than my 40/50/55 series tractors.I have sold some I have never seen and if trucker is going by let buyer take it and save trucking. What I am trying to say check them out before voicing a hurtfull, or uninforned opinion.

Probably none of my business but my buddy and I haul quite a few tractors a month either to or from Chris's place and no, we are not in business together. We are in Ohio and haul for ourselves and our local dealers as well. I have never delivered a tractor that he sold to a customer where the customer wasn't completely satisfied. I have even heard him talk to customers and tell them if they got it home and wasn't what he told them he would buy it back. Just my 2 cents on the matter for what it's worth, and yes, his tractors are probably the nicest ones we haul.

I don't believe I said anything hurtful or uninformed. Just asking what his reputation is. If you think a tractor with 2000 or 3000 hours is mint I'm not sure you are all that credible either. Mint to me means unused or very little use. A fully restored tractor could also qualify I suppose. It just raises a red flag to me when someone constantly uses adjectives like "Mint" for something that is quite obviously not. I see now that you and he are business partners. That doesn't lend a lot of credibility to your defense of him either.

I'm sure he does have some real nice tractors. I've personally never had any dealings with him but I do know a guy first hand that hauls in and out of there. I personally feel the same way about you when it comes to nice originals but I do prefer the green. Take care.

The return policy you mention only applies to retail sales, not private sales.

Yes I also heard that, that those two are business partners, also if these tractors are so great and low houred he should have no problem backing them with a warranty, I have even seen this at consignment auctions of tractors being backed with a ride and drive gurantee. I also in the past year bought a used combine from a dealer that claimed it was in such great shape and they backed it with a 50/50 gurantee so just because it is used does not always mean as is where is.

I have sold several low houred tractors to Chris with 0 problems. He specializes in low houred tractors and they are hard to find.He just bought a 3100 hour 2520 from me that was mint and a 2988 hour 4020 that came 3 miles from my house and a 4050 that had 3100 hours.Hours are not hard to tell .The story about guy in Mich that had a 55 hour 4455 that brought $150K shows you that low houred tractor bring a big premium and are hard to find.No matter how hard you try there will be someone not happy.
