Ed Newsome/Dave Smith

I arranged to buy a Farmall H carb about a month ago from a classified ad. The email sender was dave smith but when I sent the money order he asked for it to be made out to Ed Newsome. It will be three weeks tomorrow since he says he mailed it and it has not yet come. I'm just wondering if anyone on here has had any dealings with this person. I called a couple of days ago and he said he would ask at the PO but that he had not put delivery confirmation or insurance on it. I have had parts that I was shipping take a long time before but never this long.

I have never dealt with him but I would ask for a refund at this point.

Not trying to play Monday morning quarterback, but a name change in the process is one of many red flags that says, stop and look at what may be really going on with this deal.
Everyone is looking for a deal or a "steal", and the crooks work this to their advantage. They under price the item that you will never get, knowing that you think you are beating them out of it. That is another red flag. Most of us know about what this stuff is worth, what is rare, and what is common.
If you find a really low price on something, go buy more flag poles for the red flags, you will need them.
Try to get as much info as you can on him such as his physical address (PO Boxes are no good as anyone can have a PO Box). If you still cannot reach him, turn it over to the local sheriff in his county. Chances are, you would not be the only one "looking" for him.

U.S. post office priority mail never takes more than 3 to 4 days, and I've never had a package just plain disappear. I think it is time for you to dig a little deeper.

"U.S. post office priority mail never takes more than 3 to 4 days"

WRONG!!!

I'm NOT defending nor do I KNOW the seller(s) and typically I've had good luck with the USPS, and PREFER them over UPS and FedEx in most cases.

HOWEVER, there's been a few times where a Priority package sent to me and CONFIRMED as sent has "dropped off the radar" for as much as a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a physical address, and I figured the email might just be that he is not really comfortable with computers and someone else helps him with that part of it. The price was $75 for a used carb, so that doesn't seem like an exceptional bargain to me. I will ask him for a refund and then figure it out from there.

I sent a flat rate box to a guy in TX and it took about 2 weeks last spring, so it can happen, but three weeks seems a little long to me.

I usually can get them bought for $50, and refuse to pay more than $60.
$75 is probably not too much IF you can install it and have it functioning properly with NO extra work or parts, but if that carburetor has been kicking around for awhile, it WILL need work.

When I contacted the seller to ask for a refund he said the carb had just come back in the mail as undeliverable, so he mailed it again and I got it today. Just to let you all know the outcome.
