Dear Collectors:
I wanted to let my collector friends know about a deal that went bad. Many of you have had business dealings with me in the past where I try to be honest and upfront about any of my MM parts and tractors that I buy or sell. I have sold an assembled "RZI Star" home-made MM tractor picked up from my house recently after being sold last fall before my bad car accident. After it was delivered, I recieved this e-mail:
Ethan,
The tractor you sold me was ridiculous. You didn’t say that it didn’t have the correct fenders on it. You said it was peppy – it doesn’t even have all the parts to run it. The clutch is locked up – you can’t even push it. I wasn’t expecting much but I did expect to drive it when it arrived. Muffler is missing – instrument panel is gone! I think you need to compensate me for misrepresenting your tractor. Send $200.00 my way. Tractor made me sick to think you pulled a fast one on me not letting me know that there were so many things missing. There isn’t any way to hitch things on the back. The lights are off of I don’t know what. Just make things right.

This is David Schwinghammer of Red Barn Ridge LLC. After listing this tractor with a description on this forum he agreed to buy it for $750 ($250 under the asking price). In the phone call I gave an accurate description of a ZA, RTI, 335, etc hybrid I had assembled. The engine ran well in the 335 and I agreed to piece it together for transport.
After the sale he requested pictures and commented it was not what he wanted and questioned the various parts thinking he bought a running original RTI which was not the case. I explained yet again and he said he would takle it. Now upon delivery he is upset.
In e-mails and phone conversations I noted:
It had VAC fenders to make it look like a tiny MM G.
The engine ran well in my 335 and would be installed but not running complete with all parts.
The tractor rolls but no clutch in it. (I can push it by hand across my shop.)
I was attimate that it did not run nor was it going to be running.
I never mentioned it had a muffler.
I said I would put small headlights on it to enhance its G like appearance.
Instrument panel is there, no gauges.
A front tire went flat, so I agreed to put brand new front tires on it. I gave him the one good spare that went with it just as a good gesture.
New front tires $120
Rear tires $300
RTI axle housings $400
Hood $250
VAC Fenders $100
Headlights from 335 $100
335 engine (low hours) $500
Perfect ZA radiator $200
All the rest we'll figure $0
Extra industrial tire, freebie
$1970 total value in parts if I were to have kept and sold this
advertised originally for $1000
sold $750 as a favor with accurate description on-line, in e-mail (with photos), and on several phone calls (most well documented)
After buying it for $750, he listed it on Craigs list for sale for $1000 from location: MY HOUSE!
Now he claims I misrepresented my tractor and demands I send him money. I will not and I communicated to him I deal honestly with all my collector pals and many would back me up. Pictures were also sent prior to pick-up.
I was almost fataly injured in November, but at his prodding and unable to walk I was able to get this tractor together with help of some family so he could pick it up. He didn't get it when he said but finally did just last weekend. If I had known it would take that long, I would not have worked diligently to get it assembled while injured and barely able to walk.
Maybe David is not good with details and I do not wish to question his honesty but have been forced to do so. All I ask is all of you beware. He collects industrial MM tractors. If he strikes a deal with you in the future, make a deal but keep EVERYTHING in writing and well documented.
