I just drove 400 miles to look at and buy the tractor for $3950. The tractor has a 1952 tag but is not a 1952 model. He did not like it when I questioned him about it. He did not like the way I test drove the tactor and then would not sell the tractor after I had driven that far. Now price is $4500. You really need to check this tractor and seller before you consider this tractor.

Tell us more about the tractor, the model, why you knew it was not a 1952, etc.
Also, tell us how he justified increasing the price and why he would not sell it to you after you drove it.

1952 JD G had square axles and 6 gear pattern gear shift. This tractor had round axles and 3 pattern gear shift with high/low range shiter. The SN did match a 1952 G. Tractor was not in as good of shape as he had stated. Sheet metal was pitted baddly, muffler not correct for G. Temp guage was not even a style used on JD tractors. Dual fuel valve was missing completely and lots of other small things that are typical of an older tractor. Tractor was said to be completely orginal and complete. He seemed to not like it when I made comment of it. He got really mad when I test drove the tractor, said I was too hard on the tractor. Said tractor was not for sale, put it in the shop and did not care that I had drove over 400 miles to buy the tractor. I checked the internet 30 min after we left and tractor was listed again for $4500. He had the tractor listed at $3950. Friday when we traded on it.

John Deere G tractor were only made with round axles. If you have a square axle g , youve got a very rare tractor.To the best of my knowledge.But Ive been wrong before.

I stand corrected on the Axels and gear shift pattern. Have done a little research and believe that the info that I had was incorrect. Can not say that the tractor is a 52 model or not. Other info about the tractor is correct.

IS that not why you went for? To check the condition of the tractor: I might have done the same if you came to buy from me. It is better to stop a sale that has potential hard feelings to follow. He may have felt that you were not going to be satisfied with the tractor and end up on this sight anyway. I have bought tractors unseen sometimes they are not as good as I hoped for. That is my fault I could have went and looked.

I bought the JD G and it is a great tractor. BTH told me the story. He said he had sent 6 or 7 pictures to the buyer before he made his trip.
He also said the buyer had little knowledge and no respect for these older tractors. I am glad the buyer made him mad I got a great tractor.

Good to pass-have turned down 6 speed G for 2500 bucks. Fair to good condition.
