First of all, I did not experience this through this site, I am restoring a 1979 IH Cabover, and I am a member of the ATHS. Having previously restored my RJ58 wheelhorse, I wanted to extend my warning to everyone I can get to hear me. Several of our members have been scammed by this guy. Don't let it happen to you!!I have placed several wanted ads for parts through Wheels of Time. These ads have allowed me to find some parts & make connections with other people who just want to talk about cabovers. Until yesterday... I was contacted by a man who said his name was Terry Johnson out of Omaha, NE, he said he purchased an estate out of Arizona that included some IH cabovers that he didn't want or have room to store. Long (2-3 hrs on the phone between my wife, "Terry," & I) story short, we sent "earnest money" to his driver to deliver the trucks. I did have several active phone numbers, but my caller id came up unknown number... After many calls, he finally answered the phone @ 4:30am & said he doesn't know who I am or what I'm talking about. The money we sent has been picked up, western union offers no help, and right now we are trying every avenue to make sure this guy doesn't take advantage of anyone else. If anyone has any information, similar experiences, or suggestions on how to help catch this guy I would GREATLY appreciate it. Please no lectures... I'm kicking myself enough as it is!

Hind sight is definitely 20/20
Thank You & please keep your ears open!
Frank

Never, never, NEVER use Western Union for something like this. You have no recourse.

Frank, I apologies for my other post. I did not mean it to sound like a lecture and it is advice that you already know. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and warning us of this guy.

My experience with buying anything out of towwn or far away, is this: If i can't see it, hear it run, try it out, or lay my hands on it---no, i don't buy it! And, if it is what i want, i want it loaded on my truck or trailer, not picked up by the Ghost Trucker!
The Internet has opened up many lucrative holes for scammers to take you to the cleaners. And, with the many ways to get scammed as there are on the internet, it puts old P.T. Barnum to shame! Trust has disappeared on the 'net.
