Farmall H Serial Number?!

Hey guys! Found another Farmall H today. Guy has it torn down into pieces in his shop for restoration, and by the looks of things, it has been there quite a while...

Serial number was like 67000 something, but at the end, it said X5? I know X1 is a gas engine, what is X5?

Unfortunatly, he has swapped engines with another H that his friend has, and the friend now has the original engine that was in this tractor, but I know the friend even better than I know this guy, and I think that if I get one of the tractors, the other one will follow me home as well!!!

Just wondering if it was worth looking into... Would like to have another H around here for misc things, but I wanted to know what that X5 meant first!!!

Thanks!!! Bryce

Hello Bryce I think that that the X5 was for the 5000 ft altitide pistons, no other changes to the tractor that I know of. Rest of tractor parts just regular old H if the original engine is gone. Good luck, Mike

So those pistons would have been to boost Compression at higher altitudes then right?

In theory, would running one of those engines, at 2200 feet, rather than 5000 have any affect on power? Would have a little more, if any, right?

Is the engine collectible or rare?

Not collectable. The designation was common in altitude states, like yours. The compression will be fine with today's regular fuel (87) most of the replacement pistons today will be "domed" for higher compression. 2 to 3 HP for sure. Jim

Not positive without some checking but think that was 5,000 feet on distillate. Combustion chamber was larger than a gasoline head.
Good chance the original pistons were changed along the way so don't put much faith in it having original type pistons.
