Farmall 806 Front End Question

I have a wide front on my 806. When riding along, sometimes my left front tire / wheel will wobble like crazy. Sometimes it is fine, but the faster I go It just wobbles badly. What is it? The bearings or what? The right side wheel runs straight and true. Never wobbles. Any ideas?

Most likely the arm that hooks to the 'spindle' is loose. They are either keyed,or splined. That 'conection is worn/loose.Not much can be done except replace parts.Or......9(gasp!) weld it.(gasp!)The tierod ends could also be loose. Take a close look.Have someone 'wiggle' the steering wheel while you watch those ares.

I had an 806 with badly worn arms & splines. We took the arms off & cut out a narrow slot opposite the tie rod. A chop saw may work well for you. Then we welded a large nut on each side of the slot, & ran a bolt through to clamp it tight. It worked nicely. Look at a 56 series. Same principle.

As already said the spline or key shot. I'll weld one in a heartbeat. The spline will not last anyway. The key is better than the spline. If they had a tapered spline that would be best.

Well take it apart and see what the problem is and fix it THE WRIGHT way . Drives me up a wall when someone grabs the Lincoln READY BOLT fix . Then down the road they bring it in and want to REBUILD the knee with new bushings and thrust bearings and the arm is welded to the spindle and ask you to try and reuse the butcherd arm over again , ain't happing here is i have to CUT some weld off your buying a new spindle and arm . A #4 tip in my torch makes short work of a welded spindle. What is left can be made into a TOYOTA later.

My 856 was a little sloppy on the arm and had a wobble. Depending how bad it is worn will determine if this will work. Mix up some JB weld and put it on the spindle. Put the arm over top of it. When the JB weld sets, it should stay put. Did this 10 years ago and it is still running fine. The best part is when you need to take it apart, heat it with a torch and it will come apart, unlike really welding it where you would have to cut it off. Simple and cheap. Worked for me.
I would still check the tie rod ends as well though just to make sure there is no slop there

Spindle bushings. Simple as that. I once owned an 856 that did the same thing. Replaced the bushings and it was good as new.
