Farmall H Cutout Generator Output

Working on a very nice original 1941 H. Sat unused in a shed for the last 30 years, and is like something out of a time capsule!
Flashed the generator and got it charging, after chasing a ground problem that seemed to be pretty much everywhere...
I'm just curious what amperage output should be on High and Low charge settings? Using a little Inductive gauge shows about 20a on high, maybe 5 on low. Tractor ammeter glass is all cloudy, and can't see ammeter move. Not sure how much I trust my inductive gauge either.

Here it is, after a hard day on the rake!

Trying again!

That is within the expected range but a little high. If the Battery was fully charged and known to be good, the 15 amp and 3 amp numbers would be more "normal" but the gauge used is for seeing if it is charging, not defining the set amps. Replacing the meter might be first. If the voltage into a fully charged battery at 3/4 throttle is about 14.2, all is well for high charge, 13.8 will probably be OK for low charge. Jim

I really like your stone barn!! Glad to see you used the word "flash" when you did your generator. That's the word I grew up with.

Should be a 6-volt system. Cut those voltage numbers in half.

Hey Jim - Your amp numbers are right on. However with due respect, for a 6 volt system your voltages are off (high) by a factor of 2(!)

The specs vary depending upon which generator you have.

Delco # 1100501:
Spec # 1778
Cold output: 20 - 25 amps, 7.0 volts, 2400 rpm
Hot output: 16 - 19 amps, 6.9 -7.1 volts, 2500 rpm

Delco # 1101355:
Spec # 1651
Cold output: 13 - 16 amps, 7.7 - 8.1 volts, 1800 rpm
Hot output: 9 - 11 amps, 7.3 -7.6 volts, 1900 rpm

Your gen has an adjustable third brush and it can be set to charge less. There is a slotted screw on the end plate. You will need to remove the band covering the brushes then you can slide that brush farther away from the next brush. But unless you are going to use the tractor for extendd times present setting wont hurt the batt as you will probably be starting engine often for short runs.

any words have many different connotations. Grow up is apparently the operative phrase.
