450D v. 450 Gas Sleeves....

So the question of the day is if a sleeve out of a 450 gas and a sleeve out of a 450D are interchangeable...Got the newest member of the farm home Sunday night and pulled the oil pan Monday. I knew it knocked a bit in cylinder #4 but was surprised to find the remains of a sleeve in the bottom of the pan. I will get the head pulled and the pistons out in a couple days. Just wondering that in the event the other 3 sleeves are still good ( no ridge and mic out good) if I can use a good used sleeve from when I re did the 450 Gas a few years ago. Thanks for all the assistance!!!

Minor point Jim: 450G and 450D engines are the same displacement (281 CI) and bore dia (4-1/8"). However the gas and diesel sleeves are different in the other dimensions, and as you point out will not interchange.

Several things cause the failure of a sleeve.
Cavitation at or near the top of the sleeve caused by sound pressure waves and coolant contamination
Fracturing of the sleeve at the top where the flange is located from looseness of fit and continuous working causing fatigue.
Stress cracks from excessive force used to install a too tight sleeve.
seized engine based stresses.
water freezing in the bore above the piston.
(other causes will be likely to be added by others.
