560d starter rebuild

My 560d needs the starter rebuilt. The shop said the parts are obsolete and will be over $300 bucks to rebuild. That seems pricey to me and wondering about anyone else thoughts. Also, are there any other models that will work. It has d282 engine. Thanks.

Find a different place to do business. Reds Auto Electric in St . Cloud is a good example of a fine place to do business. An original rebuilt is much better than a "new import". A used starter from a salvage yard is good to get going while yours is rebuilt. This site sells non delco starters for 265.00 Jim

A shop by me has rebuilts on the shelf and parts in stock.

Stopped there a couple weeks back and got an AMERICAN made solenoid for the old diesel.

A guy at our show needed a starter for an H and that was on the shelf too.

Walked in to Ankeny auto electric in Ankeny Iowa on a monday and picked it up on Thursday. Just about new everything in it and the bill was around 225

parts aren't 'obsolete' for these at all, they're just a crappy shop

Don't know where you are from but Ag Electric in Racine Minnesota can fix a starter like that in a heartbeat. 507-378-
2101. Racine is just south of Rochester.

Thanks to everyone for answering. I guess I'll have to find another shop or try to find one somewhere else. I thought that was too high.

I am parting out a 560 diesel. Can bench-check the starter tomorrow to see if it works.
Engine is stuck.
Call 218-seven seven zero-46 two three.

Presumably the starter on a 656 with the d282 motor is the same? I had it rebuilt 2 years ago at my local automotive electric shop no problem. It needed a new stator and solenoid. Under $150 if I recall. I also replaced the cable to the battery at the same time since it was apparent the old cable overheated at some point.

First he tell you it's obsolete, then he tells you it's going to be over $300.00, now what kind of double talk bull is that,. Now which is it, that's just a precurser to get into your pocket book.
