The pto was slipping,so the end was rewelded and the question is:

how do you get the pto back in . tried everything. Opened the filler hole and there's gears in there, so can't see.
Is there a trick that would help

The end pilots into a bushing in the end of the transmission countershaft. You just have to stab it in the dark. With it mostly in
and about level with the platform it's just a small bump up from there. It also really helps if you use a piece of pipe over the
splined end so you have more leverage and control.

Early PTO with a notch and dog engagement? Or most common with a splined tube to engage? Like the other posters said to install unless the splined end was welded, if so it may not fit the splined transmission shaft.

It is an early pto with a dog engagement. The neighbour farmer rewelded the dogs. the seemed to be worn down, causing the slipping. Yes a pipe was used, but it was short. I will try a longer pipe.
