560 Hydraulics

Finally got the correct filter and bypass valve for 560, drained oil in 3 places and surprisingly oil was not that bad, small amount of crud near rear of transmission but noting like in filter housing. Fired it up after adding new oil, pressure still a little over 300 psi at couplers. Can I check pump output directly by hooking pressure gage up to outlet on side of pump housing, one where hose hooks to go up to outlets. Want to eliminate other problems such as relief valve. I have Blue Ribbon Service books, but don't have flo rater available, just pressure gage. thanks for any help

hayfarmer,
I would not dead head the pump. If it's good, and putting out the right pressure, something might break, like input shaft or housing.
A better way might be a tee screwed into the pump, with an open valve in one leg and a gauge in the other. Start it with the valve open, then slowly squeeze the pressure up with the valve. If you get to the recommended pressure, note the flow, or rather, the reduction in flow.
Also, it might be more convenient to screw a hose in the pump first, and put your tee on the end of the hose, or some combination of hose and fittings, to make it easy to divert flow back to the reservoir.
At no time would I exceed the maximum pressure rating for the pump.

Still no luck....

I agree with not deadheading the pump. I wonder if you could fashion a tool with an appropriately rated ball valve and your gauge on a T. You could gradually close the ball valve and see how it responds.

With the methods by the others just run some of the oil back into a gallon or 5 gallon pail while under pressure this will give the flow as you time it. Over fill the reservoir to prevent pump damage. This will give you both flow and pressure readings.

Hayfarmer, when you get this 560 up and running to your satisfaction, you are going to be a expert on 560's your self.
