Super A auxiliary hydraulics - what coupler arrangement?

My Super A has an auxiliary control valve with some ancient hydraulic lines coming off it that go to an aftermarket rectangular steel hydraulic manifold. The manifold is a basic straight-through block that acts like an extender. The liens go in, and couplers are simply screwed into the output ports. The manifold was bolted to a thin piece of tin mounted on the left seat bracket. Not very well done.

I'd like to put something better in place since I have to replace the decaying lines anyhow. One of them has the outer layer flaking off and the other is actually 2 smaller hoses coupled together and they are age-cracked.

I keep reading about "break-away" couplers being ideal for the rear of tractors. What are my options? And how were these traditionally mounted on a Super A (or 140)?

I know Pioneer makes hydraulic fittings, but I know nothing about ag hydraulics, what the common sizes are, etc. I would not even know what size hoses to buy to replace the ones I have, unless I brought the old ones to TSC and asked them.

Can anyone help with an edu-ma-cation?

A little more info:

I've been able to determine the Auxiliary Control Valve uses 1/4-18 NPT hydraulic fittings.

Originally the setup was to run a hose straight aft and the install 2 elbows and a 2" nipple from the forward outlet to get it to face aft also.

There was some sort of now-obsolete breakaway setup at the rear of the tractor.

Current setup uses a straight hose connection on the rear outlet and a hose with a built-in 90 elbow at the front outlet.

I found the original IH brass 1/4-18 NPT elbow that screws into the valve's forward outlet in a box of spare parts SI got wit the tractor. The 2" nipple extension and female to female elbow are long gone.

I bought a slightly shorter nipple and a new F to F elbow at a local store, also in brass.

Now I'm reading brass fitting are really only good to 1000psi, but the Super A hydraulics can reach 1100+ psi??

The IH parts manual even lists the original fittings between the valve and hoses as being brass.

Do I need to look for steel substitutes?

I also know I need to either get NPT to JIC couplers for my outlets, or buy all-NPT hose runs back to the coupler setup.

Still no idea what my coupler setup options are with 1/4-18 lines.

Still looking/hoping for help/advice...

Have read a little more...

It looks like in the 50's, hydraulic fittings in brass were somewhat "normal", but today are not considered "safe". In other words, they sometimes burst and made a mess, or hurt people.

So I'm going to make a trip to TSC on the weekend and look for schedule 80 or better purpose-built steel hydraulic fittings.

I'll also ask after break-away coupler arrangements. Hopefully I can get decent advice, I notice lately that a lot of the workers there know nothing about what they are selling - unfortunately.
