So how hard are the to get to?? Got a call and will be looking at the tractor Sunday to see if I can make the brakes work again
Thanks

Old, look in the archives about how to bleed the brakes. If the pedal goes to floor, that is what I'd try first.Roughly here is the procedure:make sure hydraulic fluid is full, warm engine, run at 1500,pinch off the return hose at cylinders, open bleeder screw, and pump pedal for that side til clear fluid comes out, close bleeder, and do other side. What I can't remember is the last step, you bleed opposite pedal to equalize I think. This is if (which I bet it does) it has the same brake set up as 484,485,574,etc.
The procedure is in archives many times. If it does not bleed out,the problem is either master cylinder or the seal at the brakes itself which means pulling the axle.Mark

Yes, run 1/4" clear vinyl hoses from both bleeders back into the hydraulic fill hole. There's a rubber hose on the reservoir return line that goes to the clutch housing, clamp it. Open BOTH bleeder screws, slowly pump both pedals till the fluid is clear, then close one screw, pump again till clear, then close the other screw. And don't forget to remove the clamp...

Hi Old, 384 was the last version of B414,434,444 series of UK made tractors. They are totally mechanical brakes with the ramp and rollers between and inner and outer disk inside a drum mount in front of each axle. Best case scenario is the ramp and rollers just require cleaning. Worst case is the oil seals are leaking transmission grease into brake drums. The other problem is that if someone replaces the disks and the new disks could be slightly larger and ride on the outer edge of the wear rim of the brake drums.

Teakettle, yes 385 had same rear end as 454. I don't know if 384 were sold in USA or not. My Dad and brother bought a 384 with a 1550 FEL to replace the 434 in about 1982. It ran almost everyday to feed silage to the cows. Very go tractor, they had it for about 10 years and only changed oil and filters.

Guess I'll have to wait to here back from the guy to know for sure what it is. He did say something about some one bleeding the brakes at one time but he was not sure on the model number. I hope it is the 384 and not the one with the hyd brakes since that would make it a tad bit harder

Just disconnect linkage and remove 4 or 5 bolts and drum sure come off, may have problem with rust between brake disc and spline went removing.brake disc maybe glazed.replaces the brake disc on my 384 a month ago
