IH 300 Utility hydraulics

I just discovered a switch on my IH 300U tractor that I have no idea what it is for. I looked in my owners manual, but couldn't find anything on it. Its on the same side as the hand lever for the hydraulics, but after flipping it back and forth I couldn't see it making any difference with lowering and raising the hitch. Anybody know what it is and whats it used for?

I think you are talking about the little double D shaped valve you can rotate quarter turn with a wrench on the front side of the valve. It has a roll pin in it that will catch in one of two positions. If you look below it where the roll pin will point in either position you will see a D on one side and an S on the other stamped into the casting. It is to set the valve for single or double action use. In the single setting it disables pressure on the down port allowing for float.

Thanks...but no, thats not what I was referring to. I probably didn't articulated my question well enough. But a picture is worth a thousand words. Take a look at what my fingers are holding. Hopefully, that will clarify the part I'm talking about. It flips back and forth. Is this just some sort of attachment that I don't have the rest of?

do you mean the part on top of the valve that looks like it will move back and forth? I think that is a latch that will hold
the lever up

my 350 utility has something similar, i've never used it but i think its to hold the valve open so you could power a seperate
set of valves

I've only seen that once:it is to hold/lock the lever in one position-either as a safety so you can't move the lever by accident or, if you have a remote,to lock the lever to provide hydraulics without the lever kicking back to neutral. You might have to clock your lever to line it up where you want it, if you want/need to use it.The original levers were shaped a little different, and a little shorter,I believe. It is to hold your hydraulic lever to keep you from accidently moving the lever when for example using the two point drawbar pulling a pto powered piece of equipment and really screwing things up.
To operate, flip the little piece up and move the lever to engage the notch when you let it back down and the lever should now not be able to move.
Two things to remember: The lever in the locked position should be in the neutral position. If not in the neutral position, do not use the lock. The other thing is, the lever may have been changed out over the years and not fit in the notch(this would be the case if a lever from a second or even third valve body was installed). Hope this explanation helps.

Thanks Mark and AntiqueIH That makes more sense. The lever potrudes out too far away from the safety catch to ever be useful. I dont know the original owner (only three owners including myself) so the hydraulics might have been changed out or some modification done on it a long time ago. Thanks for the explaination. It was bugging me for a long time. :)
