560 hydraulics

Sure with I would get my 560 service books soon and you guys probably do also. 3 pt lifted slow, put pressure guage in quick coupler and get between 3oo and 400 pounds pressure. Seems like power steering is sluggish also. Was a little low on trans/hydraulic oil so topped it off with Hy Tran equivalent, guy has been using a similar oil. Still no more pressure. is there a relief valve somewhere that might be stuck or am I looking at a hydraulic pump? Also is the steering pump separate from the regular hydraulic pump? Parts site shows2 different pumps, I believe someone said with letter Y after my SN I would have a 12 gallon per minute pump, which one would that be from parts book? what other models would have this pump? sorry for all the questions, been a mechanic for a long time but not on the newer-old-IH

Have you checked or changed the hyd filter yet? On the right side of torque tube under oval-ish cover.

You are right that the suffix will tell which of two different pumps you have. Unfortunately that book is at Dad's house so hopefully someone else will chime in.

no, hadn't checked. guy I bought it from said it didn't have hydraulic filter. Will all the oil drain out when I open that cover?

If it doesn't have a hydraulic filter, it is because someone took it out and ran without it. Some guys do that in real cold weather or if the filter keeps plugging. Either way, not good. Probably does need a pump or both pumps. They are mounted piggy back. Main pump is 12 gal and power steering pump is about a 5 gal, but it has it's own flow divider and relief valve right in the pump and delivers right at 3 gal per minute when ok. It is very unlikely the main relief valve is bad as that is on thing on those that it is extremely rare to have a problem. Never saw one bad in fact. Now , on the other hand, there is a regulator valve in the same block as the relief valve. That is a problem item. It has a screen protecting a small orfice. It does not limit maximum pressure however. It's function is to return the system to low regulated pressure with valves in neutral, and to put them on demand when levers are calling for it. With a worn out pump, you probably won't know if that is functioning right or not, but you will if you have a good pump. It only controls the main 12 gal pump and has nothing to do with power steering.

had to order hydraulic oil filter. I suspect guy I got it from didn't know it had one as he didn't have an operator's manual an never changed it. guess a place to start . Can you tell me the capacity of the transmission and if All oil will come out when I open filter housing?

There will be some oil in the filter part of the housing and the channel going to the pump. When we've changed ours the case was drained at the same time. I can't remember if the housing has a cast in supply tunnel or is simply open to the case.

Annoying that the previous owner didn't know about the filter; one of the good things they added for that series.
